The AtkinsRéalis UK Infrastructure Project Delivery Practice (PDP) is the centre of excellence for the delivery of infrastructure projects and combines the best in project management and design management to provide a full suite of services to clients in the public and private sectors.

The team is responsible for delivery of design services across our markets of Water Infrastructure, Defence Infrastructure, Nuclear, Aviation, Energy, Rail (stations) and Buildings and Places.

We have an exciting new opportunity in AtkinsRéalis  PDP for an Engineering Manager to join our North, Scotland, and Northern Ireland practice, based either from the Glasgow office. Whilst some working from our client offices or other AtkinsRéalis offices may be required, our advanced agile working practices will enable you to work from home and different locations with ease.

Our need to recruit comes from the success of our division, and our pipeline and expected growth within the northern regions across a variety of sectors, predominantly in Nuclear, Defence, Water, and Energy. In addition, we have strong growth across our wider Rail and Aviation sectors and would also welcome applicants who have this experience.  A role with Atkins PDP offers the opportunity to work on the full suite of these projects that Atkins SNC Lavalin delivers and will enable you to demonstrate your abilities developed to date and progress your career as an Engineering Manager in a world leading, global consultancy.

As an Engineering Manager, you are likely to have extensive multi-disciplinary project delivery experience, on substantial projects or programmes, ideally within a consultancy environment, and would be responsible for the leadership of engineering teams and the successful delivery of major multi-disciplinary projects/programmes from concept through to construction. 

As an Engineering Manager you will be responsible for (but not limited to) the following activities: 

  • Working closely with our clients and the project manager to accurately capture project technical requirements and intended outcomes.
  • Ability to work closely and build a rapport with project specific stakeholders to identify the project design requirements to ensure that the Atkins design is successful across the whole project lifecycle.
  • Instilling client confidence in Atkins’ design through your professionalism and care.
  • Taking technical ownership and providing oversight to the entire design process.
  • Managing, mentoring and supervising package engineering / design managers on your project or programme.
  • Proactively managing all aspects of design delivery, including quality, resources, risk management and reporting on the design progress.
  • Working with multi-disciplinary teams in the UK and offshore to develop and co-ordinate designs and solutions to meet client needs.
  • Managing the design in line with Atkins’ processes and adhering to all relevant industry codes and standards.
  • Perform design reviews throughout the design process from conceptual design through to project completion.
  • You will support the development, implementation and sharing of best practice for design management.
  • Monitor the dissemination of design information among the Program Team in timely manner such that abortive work is avoided or minimised as much as practicable.

Requirements:

  • Chartered Engineer or Architect or equivalent with demonstrable experience managing design, build and/or operate commissions on large infrastructure projects.
  • Market sector experience across a range of major projects and/or programmes.
  • Understands and has experience in deploying various forms of construction contract, in particular NEC3 or 4 and/or bespoke forms of contract.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and within a larger multi-discipline team.
  • Familiar with BIM and has an understanding of 3D modelling tools for design and coordination purposes and the associated Information attributes that can be assigned and managed within the Model.
  • Ability to recognise and adapt digital technologies to aid the design process.
  • Customer focused with excellent client relationship management skills.
  • A hard working and flexible individual, who is a team player, possesses great attention to detail, is reliable, proactive and shows initiative whilst able to keep cool under pressure and when working to often demanding deadlines.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities.
  • A supportive and encouraging approach to mentoring less experienced members of the team.
  • Ability to adapt to different cultures and working environments to build rapport with clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Be available to travel across the UK and work away from home on client sites if required.
