The Environment Practice, under Engineering Services of AtkinsRéalis Canada Inc. (AtkinsRéalis) is a rapidly growing full-service division that is dedicated to responding to the various needs of our clients. We are committed to providing solutions driven services to assist our clients in planning, managing, and executing their projects in a professional manner.

We are currently seeking an Intermediate Hydrogeologist to join our Hydrogeology team. This position is based in our Greater Toronto Area (GTA) offices. However, consideration may be given to other AtkinsRéalis offices.

Our Hydrogeology team members have many decades of work experience, many of whom hold post-graduate degrees in hydrogeology. Our services span across Canada, and we are working in a team collaborating environment. Our team has a diverse skill set, including all facets of physical, chemical and contaminant hydrogeology, and we serve many sectors such as mining, oil and gas, transportation, governments, and municipalities.

The successful Intermediate Hydrogeologist is expected to work on a variety of projects including infrastructure, mining, soil and groundwater contamination, groundwater resources, and environmental assessment.

This role will be based in Toronto, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Support senior staff in preparing proposals and developing work plans and budgets.
  • Plan, coordinate, and provide support for the field work programs including drilling, groundwater monitoring and sampling, hydraulic conductivity testing, and private well survey and potable water sampling.
  • Coordinate resources and arrange equipment and supplies and laboratory services.
  • Prepare field work package including health and safety plans and work plans.
  • Process and interpret groundwater monitoring and sampling, and hydraulic conductivity testing data and results.
  • Estimate dewatering zone of influence and water taking volumes/rates.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessment related to groundwater resources.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Prepare or support applications for water taking permits including Permit to Take Water (PTTW) and Environmental Activity and Sector Registry (EASR) and permits to discharge.
  • Collaborate with other hydrogeologists and members from other disciplines across Canada.
  • Ensure implementation and continued use of corporate policies, procedures and systems, including health and safety, quality management, and ethics and compliance.

The ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in hydrogeology, geology, geological engineering, or other related disciplines (environment) along with relevant experience in hydrogeology. A post-graduate degree in hydrogeology is considered an asset.
  • Field of study in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth Sciences, and Environment.
  • Work experience from 5 to 10 years.
  • Registered or be eligible to register as a Professional Geoscientist of Ontario (P.Geo.) and/or Professional Engineer of Ontario (P.Eng.).
  • Familiar with regulatory framework related to water resources, contaminated sites and environmental assessment in Ontario and Canada.
  • Experience in preparing proposals, work plans and technical reports.
  • Be able to and willing to travel for work away from the home office when required. Travel would generally be for site visits or to support field staff.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, well organized and pay attention to details.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment, including working with colleagues from other disciplines and in different geographic regions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; French skills are an asset.
  • Great interpersonal skills combined with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
