Our highly respected and successful Environmental Permitting and Management team has an ever-growing portfolio of work, built on technical excellence and exceptional service to our clients, with a particular need for support on our infrastructure, power, and renewables projects.

We are looking for an Indigenous Engagement and Knowledge Specialist who will lead some of our consultation and engagement activities in Ontario working alongside our wider Environmental specialists. You must also have the ability to travel, and lived experience is a strong preference. This role is for Ontario, however you will work alongside colleagues nationally as part of our wider Indigenous Engagement group.

Our work includes delivering keystone projects throughout their lifecycle: from early assessment of constraints to strategic development of regulatory approvals processes, to compliance management through construction and operations. Our team works collaboratively within projects to gain social acceptance and manage our clients' commitments to the environment and sustainable development.

At AtkinsRéalis, we offer a dynamic and flexible work environment with a strong emphasis on integrity, health and safety, collaboration, and excellence, with competitive compensation and benefits. You will be a key member of the team providing experience across a wide and diverse range of projects, reinforcing our reputation for technical excellence, and working collaboratively to deliver innovative work primarily across our infrastructure, power, and renewables client portfolios. As part of the wider Environment division, you’ll be at the heart of the business with the opportunity to work alongside a variety of environmental and engineering professionals across Canada and our global regions.

Your role within the team:

  • Developing and coordinating Indigenous, stakeholder, and regulatory engagement programs, including developing communication materials, planning workshops and open houses, maintaining stakeholder databases, responding to information requests, and reporting.
  • Reviewing Indigenous Knowledge studies and incorporating information from these studies into environmental impact assessments.
  • Supporting the assessment of project impacts on Indigenous and Treaty Rights and Interests, including consideration of Indigenous Use of Lands and Resources and Cultural Continuity.
  • Developing and maintaining project/task schedules and budgets for engagement, and monitoring project progress, work hours, budgets, and expenditures.
  • Supporting business development efforts, including potential client/prospect identification, proposal writing and client-facing activities.
  • Participating in industry events through presentations at conferences and/or through membership in industry organizations.

Why choose AtkinsRéalis as an employer?

Because we offer:

  • The opportunity to work on various major projects for internal and external clients.
  • An exciting environment where work-life balance is important.
  • A wide array of learning and development opportunities.
  • Competitive pay, flexible benefits, an employee share plan, and a defined contribution pension plan.
  • A work environment focused on health and safety.

The ideal candidate:

  • Indigenous Traditional Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous worldview.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Biology, Social Science or similar.
  • 10+ years relevant experience working on Environmental programs with First Nations and Indigenous communities, Environmental/Impact Assessments (EA/IA).
  • Lived experience is a strong asset.
  • Understanding of provincial, federal, and territorial EA/IA processes. Experience in Environmental Permitting is an asset.
  • Understanding and awareness of Indigenous laws with a focus on Indigenous Knowledge systems.
  • Experience facilitating workshops and open houses for Indigenous participants.
  • Experience delivering cultural awareness training for internal staff.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language, and French language skills are considered an asset.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workload to manage multiple assignments at one time.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Willing to travel.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • OCAP (Ownership, Control, Access, Possession) certification/knowledge is an asset.
