Junior Probabilistic Safety Analyst (PSA Analyst)

The department of Safety Engineering at AtkinsRealis (Candu Energy) is engaged in probabilistic safety analysis (PSA) in support of new CANDU Nuclear Power Plants as well as supporting the operation and safety of the existing domestic and international CANDU plants including refurbishments.

The Junior Probabilistic Safety Analyst (PSA Analyst) will work under senior staff to develop and applying advanced analysis methodologies to address client/project concerns regarding safety and licensing for plant support, refurbishment and new-build. These include issues related to hazard identification, Level 1 PSA, Level 2 PSA, failure mode and effect analyses, internal and external events.

Location – Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Responsible for probabilistic safety assessments of plant systems (process and safety), especially safety systems e.g. emergency core cooling, containment,) balance of plant, and plant operation and safety related systems.
  • Analysing of postulated accidents using state-of-the-art methodologies and computer codes.
  • perform reliability assessments and failure mode and effect analysis for the CANDU systems / components.
  • Develop fault trees and event trees including human reliability and common cause factors analysis and preparation of reports for Level 1 and 2 PSA.
  • Analyze internal events including shutdown, internal fire and flood, external events (e.g. seismic).
  • Assisting in the development of approaches to be used on safety analysis tasks and development of methodologies or guidance
  • Document analyses in technical notes and reports, and present results at meetings.

The ideal candidate:

  • A Relevant honours degree from a university of recognized standing in Engineering; nuclear safety analysis experience and/or background is a strong asset or several years working in the nuclear field.
  • Understanding of underlying reliability principles and statistics an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible, i.e., must be able to perform varied work assignments effectively and respond quickly to changing project needs.
  • Ability to show initiative while working in a team environment.
  • Ability to work to budget and schedule.
  • Must be willing to travel occasionally to participate in meetings and workshops.
