SNC-Lavalin is currently looking for a Materials Engineer (PG3) to join our engineering team. This role is based out of the Candu Energy Inc. home office in Mississauga, Ontario.

How will you contribute to the team?

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • This position is for an intermediate level personal who is self-motivated and willing to develop his/her career and experience in nuclear field.
  • The qualified individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
  • Perform engineering work following SNC-Lavalin/Candu Energy QA programs, and applicable codes, standards, and regulation requirements;
  • Perform complex assignments independently or under limited supervision of an engineer in an upper grade;
  • Perform engineering work related to specification, design, development, assessment and manufacturing of reactor components and materials to meet the needs of existing stations;
  • Coordinate and interface with client, suppliers, stakeholders and other design disciplines or department to execute assigned engineering work;
  • Perform site visits to client and supplier shops, as required;
  • Provide prompt response and engineering resolutions on any critical engineering related matters;
  • May give technical guidance to assist Engineering I and II team members or support employees assigned on a common project;
  • Provide support to major refurbishment projects for nuclear power plants in Canada and aboard as they relate to material considerations;
  • Provide support to utility operations for resolution of plant operational problems as they relate to material considerations; and,
  • Complete assigned scope of work and or tasks within given budget and schedule, and in good quality.

What will you contribute?

  • Engineering degree or graduate degree related to Materials Engineering, including courses and/or work experience in materials applications.
  • Engineering degree from an accredited university or equivalent degree as recognized by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • Eligible to be registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • 3-5 years of related work experience in materials engineering or mechanical engineering with specialization in materials or metallurgy.
  • Working knowledge of CSA N285.6 and ASME Section II/III/V/IX codes and any other applicable standards or regulatory guides related to permanent plant components, pressure boundary equipment, and/or reactor systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, welding processes, procedures and specifications and associated inspection techniques is preferred.
  • Must have excellent technical and practical skills to resolve engineering issues or technical problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, including taking into account the plans of others.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic knowledge of CANDU mechanical and process systems, structures and components is an asset.
  • Willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
