Our Nuclear & Power division is a leading consultancy providing multi-disciplinary engineering support services to all project stages, from concept through to completion, to owners, operators, regulators and suppliers to a diversified set of clients. Within the Nuclear sector, we’re involved across the whole life cycle of the civil nuclear industry, building the next generation of civil nuclear power stations and the first large scale prototype fusion reactor, meeting the challenge of keeping the current nuclear fleet operational and tackling complex decommissioning projects.

To meet the increasing demand of our expertise in the nuclear industry we have now multiple opportunities for Mechanical Engineers – Finite Element Modelling and Analysis with experience ranging from 5 – 10 years in mechanical design and analysis domain in engineering to join the nuclear team at our AtkinsRealis Bangalore office.  (Within the industries such as Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Nuclear Power, Conventional Power and other related industries).

Responsibilities:

The work is varied and may include some or all of the responsibilities mentioned below:

  • Mechanical design and analysis of engineering structural systems.
  • Structural design and assessment/ Fatigue and Fracture assessment/Structural integrity analysis/Stress analysis /Engineering substantiation studies to international standards.
  • Building /Plant systems design and analysis through Finite Element Modelling.
  • Finite Element Modelling and Analysis using ABAQUS or ANSYS.
  • Preparation of conceptual and detail design packages, including optioneering, design development, and concept evaluation.
  • Design by rule based calculations including calculation of structural thickness etc.
  • Equipment selection (including material selection) and procurement including technical bid evaluation, vendor drawing review.
  • Production of deliverables such as design definition and substantiation documents, detailed equipment specifications, pipe material specifications, system performance test specifications.
  • Development of finite element models from the drawings and engineering judgement on element selection for the built FE models.
  • Development of project technical proposals, scopes, schedules and budget estimates for mechanical discipline work.
  • Production of technical notes and stress reports for the structural elements like buildings, primary and secondary industrial structures.
  • Operational improvement and life extension studies.

Qualification and Experience Requirements:

You will need to demonstrate experience in some or all of the following areas:

  • Suitable degree in Mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in Nuclear, Power, Oil & Gas or other highly regulated industrial environment preferred.
  • Identify, produce and supervise production of appropriate analyses and calculations to demonstrate acceptable performance or highlight design issues. Support the QA process through review and approval of colleagues' work.
  • Manage delivery of your projects to Time, Cost and Quality requirements.
  • Lead requirements capture activities to identify the scope of work.
  • Produce mechanical engineering solutions to the required standards, including detailed technical reports to meet client expectations.
  • Project managing multiple work streams with different clients, including resource scheduling and time allocation.
  • Proven computer aptitude, and expertise in MS office.
  • Understanding of other relevant engineering disciplines.
  • Familiar with international design codes and standards (such as: ASME BPVC Section III, RCC-M, ASME B31.1, PSSR 2000, BS EN 13480 and BS EN13445) and recommended practices pertaining to mechanical design and analysis, fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, quality assurance and quality control etc.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of team, flexible attitude to the type of work and the level of responsibility accepted.
  • Ability to manage / mentor Junior Engineers.
  • Ability to understand and define client’s requirements, plan and schedule deliverables, timelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills with a proven ability to write accurate, detailed and concise technical reports (e.g. design substantiations, basis of analysis, safety case support references).
  • Flexible to travel to Atkins’ and client’s office locations around the world, if required.
  • Well-versed knowledge of Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing related to Nuclear, Oil and Gas, any Mechanical equipment-based industries.
  • Experience in production of Finite element models preferably in ABAQUS, ANSYS or Both.
  • Experience in Linear and Non-Linear Static analysis, Frequency analysis, Buckling analysis, Explicit analysis, Seismic analysis.
  • Familiarity with the regulatory programs – International codes.
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
  • Participates in client design reviews.
  • Knowledge of life extension studies.
  • Experience or exposure to project management principles desirable.
  • Ability to understand and define client’s requirements, plan & schedule deliverables, timelines.
  • Strong delivery culture, ability to multi-task, resource management, delegate tasks, develop and deliver cost/time-effective solutions.
  • Chartered engineer or In the process of getting chartership accreditation from professional institutions.

You will also be expected to demonstrate the following qualities -

  • Professional approach.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Team working, being comfortable working in international teams.

Tools -

  • Experience of FEM software like ABAQUS, ANSYS, Hypermesh, PATRAN /NASTRAN.
  • Experience in CAD modelling: CATIA v5, Creo.
  • Experience in tools Mathcad, Matlab.
  • Programming scripts like Python, VBA, Power BI.
