The opening presents the opportunity to join our Building Services team in Epsom who are playing a leading role in some of the world’s most challenging and exciting engineering projects across a plethora of sectors including Mission Critical, Aviation, Energy (eg Fission, Fusion, Large scale PV), Commercial Offices, Residential, Blue Light, Education, Transportation and Defence. Our work will have you working with designers all across the UK and internationally on projects that range from small net zero carbon housing developments to projects of significant and national scale.

The opportunity will require candidates to be client-facing as well as being involved in the day-to-day design and management of projects. It is an exciting opportunity for an experienced design engineer to further develop their career within a leading building design consultancy.

AtkinsRéalis is currently looking for an experienced, accomplished, and self-motivated Electrical Engineer to work with the team on a major nuclear framework.  The engineer will work with the site’s Approval Authority Department who utilise a wealth of technical expertise to review design proposals in line with the nuclear safety case, both for existing and new installations.The engineer will work with and report to a local MOD line manager who will provide work and guidance for the role.

The ideal candidate will be an inventive problem solver who is capable of working through technical challenges and has the ability to learn very quickly in order to adjust to the project operational processes and standards.  This is a fantastic opportunity to work on one of the company’s largest contracts and work with a wide range of specialist electrical systems that each hold its own list of technical challenges.

Responsibilities: 

• The review and approval of all electrical design changes and proposals affecting the nuclear safety case onsite. 
• Perform detailed calculations to substantiate design changes. 
• Inspect installations and observe operations to ensure compliance with design intent, equipment specifications and regulatory standards. 

Daily Activities:

• The detailed review of design and safety case information. 
• Review and comment on maintenance and survey results. 
• Liaising with other disciplines on design changes. 
• Design operations to agree practicable design solutions. 
• Liaising with naval and nuclear regulator staff to communicate engineering requirements for the site. 

Requirements: 

• Qualification in Building Services / Mechanical Engineering and Chartered with a relevant institution. 
• Experience in either Energy, Defense or related sectors advantageous. 
• Extensive project experience, involving high levels of technical competence. 
• Experience working on a variety of major multi-discipline design projects. 
• Demonstrable leadership and people management skills with the ability to run a team. 
• Good commercial awareness, business management skills and results orientation. 
• Confident ability with good communication skills and a professional approach to clients and other AtkinsRéalis employees. 
• Previous experience producing and reviewing contractual engineering documentation e.g., statement of requirements, scope of works, basis of design and specifications. 
• Previous experience working on marine, defence and nuclear projects is preferred. 
• Finding solutions and options for digital transformation and the industry net zero carbon challenge.
