Principal Consultant – Business Consulting

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned;

  • To generate new business for SNC-Lavalin Atkins Rail Consulting practice and provide high quality consultancy services to clients.  May be required to lead and direct staff within a functional group of the Operations Department, on large assignments and on key projects and act as a source of guidance and expertise
  • To provide high quality advice and deliverables to UK and international clients, both as an individual and through the effective and efficient coordination of wider Rail Consulting resources
  • To provide strategic level input to high-value projects and assignments at both planning and delivery phase
  • To lead major / complex projects and assignments as required
  • To deliver and maintain new business for Rail Consulting through preparing, selling and delivering compelling propositions to rail companies across the world
  • To undertake work to maximise revenue opportunities and contribute to Rail Consulting’s income at as high a profit level as possible
  • To contribute to existing and new work generated by other consultants when practical and required by the business
  • To drive through a customer-centric culture that has continuous improvement at its heart, recognising that it is the little things we do that make a difference
  • To ensure an energetic approach is taken to create business continually seeking fresh opportunities to solve problems by exploiting the advantage of knowledge and using technology to improve consistency and quality of delivery and drive down cost.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Chartered Engineer with a degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent; or more than significant related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Significant experience in relevant industry roles. with experience in one or more relevant areas of industry activity – rolling stock procurement; rolling stock fleet management; franchise bidding and mobilisation; train operations; infrastructure projects; signalling and control system projects.
  • Experienced in leading large teams and people;
  • Experience in holding lead roles in large bids, major procurement projects or major delivery projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate and influence at all levels in an organisation.
  • Strong influencing skills to drive team direction, build consensus and enable change to occur.

Desirable Experience & Skills

  • Has held a senior operating position within a business, are highly desirable.  
  • The ability to communicate in a different language to English.
