Principal Process Engineer

As a result of continued growth in our Warrington, Cheshire Office, we are looking to recruit an experienced Principal Process engineer with a proven track record in the production of engineering/technical deliverables on small to large multidisciplinary design projects associated with industrial facilities. Experience in the Nuclear Industry would be preferable, but is not essential.

Building strong and trusted relationships is a key part of this role. You’ll enjoy working with others, sometimes directly at client sites, sometimes from our offices. You’ll be client focussed – being able interface with clients, understand their needs and convert opportunities into successful workstreams.
In addition to building excellent relationships with our clients, you’ll also be able to develop, guide, lead coach and grow your team, being able to provide comprehensive support to a team within a project, and mentor others. There is a strong network of process engineers across the Atkins Energy business, and successful links and exchange between these groups is a fundamental part of building delivery flexibility.

You will be confident in client facing roles, developing relationships with clients to inspire trust and confidence in our capabilities. Atkins success is built on inspiring clients with our approach, supported with imaginative well-structured bids, and collaborative working, and them followed by quality assured deliverables such as P&IDs, concept and feasibility studies, design assessments and detail designs.

You will enjoy approaching things in different ways to find the best possible fit – you like making improvements and consider different approaches, trying to find the best approach to fit whatever is the current context.

In addition to having strong analytical and numeracy skills, other key requirements include:
• Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Member/Fellow of the IChemE.
• An appropriate level of relevant industrial experience which could be derived from R&D, project engineering, operations, OEM or contract or consultancy field.
• Demonstrable ability to be able to communicate well, especially with the written form

You may also demonstrate the below desirable requirements:
• Relevant Nuclear Sector experience and/or the desire to work in nuclear.
• Experience delivery of engineering projects within teams of professional staff and individually.

The successful candidate shall be required to lead technical projects with a team of engineers involved in chemical/process engineering and interfacing with other related disciplines. They will inherit an exciting portfolio of work and future opportunities to develop and expand that team to deliver on projects including those that help to clean up the UK’s ever expanding catalogue of nuclear facilities.

Responsibilities
• Integrating into the wider Atkins community of process engineering to deliver joint projects
• Developing, coaching and growing the process team capability
• Project definition and the assistance in the preparation of fee proposals
• Preparation of conceptual and scheme designs
• Communicating design solutions to key stakeholders
• Management of engineers undertaking detailed design solutions in accordance with the relevant British Standards
• Checking and preparation of technical specifications
• Liaison with clients to ensure technical deliverables are delivered on time to the client requirements
• Checking of the detailed design deliverables and engineering drawings
• Management of workload and resources. Proactive engagement with Operations team to secure and maintain workload for Process team.



Requirements 

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree qualified, and a Chartered Engineer.
• A good level of previous engineering design experience is essential, understanding the design process from concept through to commissioning and operation 
• Experience of highly regulated UK industries is required with an understanding of relevant legislative standards 
• Proven capability, technically delivering Process engineering projects 
• Candidates should have a very strong technical background, including first principles analysis and knowledge and use of relevant UK and international codes and standards
• Skilled at collaborative working, have good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively ideas and solutions. You will be able to build and develop relationships internally and externally
• Customer focused and a high level of relationship management skills 
• A good track record in stakeholder management and dealing with clients on a regular basis
• You will be driven to meet targets, maintain productivity within your team and have a high level of commercial awareness. You will have demonstrated the ability to work within budget and programme 
• Experience of supervising teams of professional staff including developing/mentoring junior engineers

Desirable

• A high level of relevant, previous experience as a Principal Engineer 
• Working in multi-disciplinary teams on high value construction projects. Site experience on such projects would be advantageous.
• Good standard of written English and the ability to write clear technical reports and critically review technical documents.
• Innovative and open to ideas 
• Flexible in approach, willing to travel to work on client sites etc. sometimes as part of a short secondment
