The Shoreline Power Group is a Joint Venture of Aecon, United and SNC-Lavalin. Shoreline Power Group will be completing the Fuel Channel and Feeder Replacement (FCFR) project.  The joint venture has been awarded a contract by Bruce Power to execute the Unit 6 FCFR at the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station in Kincardine, Ontario.

This project is part of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064, the project is the centrepiece of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) program to replace the main components of the reactor. Unit 6 is the first of six reactors being replaced by Bruce Power through the MCR program.

The scope of work includes the removal and replacement of calandria tubes, pressure tubes, and feeders for Unit 6, as well as construction management and trade labour. Work is scheduled to commence in June 2020, with expected completion in the third quarter of 2022.

The Mechanical Quality Inspector is responsible for the performance of all quality functions and duties as related to the FCFR construction activities performed under the JV QA Program. The position reports to the Project Quality Assurance Supervisor.

This role will be based in Kincardine, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Participate to preparation and execution of the Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Perform quality inspection in accordance with the related codes and customer specifications. Such inspections shall include but not be limited to:
    • Dimensional inspections.
    • Visual welding inspection.
    • Hardness testing.
    • Positive material identification.
  • Review of Certified Material Test Reports as required.
  • Perform internal weld monitoring as required.
  • Complete all associated documentation and forms for individual inspections.
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of a cost of quality tracking system.
  • Tracking of non-conformance reports and corrective/preventative action requests.

The ideal candidate:

  • Graduate secondary school education in welding technology, QA/QC or a related discipline at the University or College level.
  • W178 Level 2 Visual Weld inspection. (preferred).
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Computer literate in MS Office.
  • ASME Code, B&PV plus Nuclear/ ISO 9001 and CWB experience.
  • Previous experience in receiving inspections and controls within a Nuclear Qualified Warehouse and Clean Room would be considered an asset.
  • Fiscal responsibility as required.
  • Various work locations in both field and office.
  • Travel as necessary.
  • Extent of Public Contact:
    • Customers, suppliers.
    • Project Managers, project personnel, estimating personnel.
    • Trades personnel, union business agents.

Due to the nature of work conducted by Aecon, mandated nuclear export controls requirements must be met for employment.
