Senior/Associate Urban Design Masterplanner in our Manchester offices.

You will have the opportunity to use the skills that you have developed on our high-profile masterplanning projects across a range of scales for the public and private sector, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams of building design professionals, economists and commercial managers.

The opportunities would particularly suit Urban Designers / Masterplanners who can demonstrate broad experience of related work in the UK strategic land and residential sector, as well as of urban regeneration and infrastructure redevelopment schemes.

As Urban Designer / Masterplanner you will be responsible for activities including:

  • Leading in the production of high-quality urban design and master planning projects.
  • Support in the preparation of technical bids and fee proposals for master planning and urban design projects and other major infrastructure projects where appropriate.
  • Project management of master planning projects involving multi-disciplinary teams, including the application of all Atkins business management systems.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, attending meetings, workshops and seminars.
  • Other duties associated with the main role and responsibilities will be requested from time to time.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in urban design or comparable qualification, with a preferable first degree in architecture or landscape architecture.
  • Client focused with good management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Excellent graphic design skills with a minimum fluency in AUTOCAD, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Use of GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS), hand sketching, 3D modelling (Sketch Up, Rhino, etc..) a distinct advantage.
  • Have experience on UK residential schemes and a beneficial familiarity of the Homes England Framework, urban regeneration & railway station improvement projects and design codes.
  • Have had broad involvement in developing tender proposals for public and private sector clients.
  • Have a working understanding of the UK Planning System and a track record of developing SPD’s and Outline applications.
  • Experience of working on international masterplanning projects would be a distinct advantage.
  • When circumstances permit, be available to travel across the UK when required. The ability to work away from home in the UK or internationally would be of benefit.
