Job Description:

  • Implement commercial best practice to maximise value and minimise risk and cost.
  • Support the business in developing and implementing commercial strategies for successfully winning bids and managing post contract activities.
  • Coach and develop staff.          
  • Be an ambassador for the company and champion best practice.
  • Contribute to the development of supply chain strategies for winning bids and delivering projects.
  • Deliver the pre and post Contract opportunity and risk process including mitigation of risk.
  • Negotiate with key customer interfaces and supply chain.
  • Delivering robust commercial solutions in all our bids.
  • Develop good strategies for improving cash flows.
  • Adherence to company policies and processes.
  • Ability to communicate with client and key suppliers to promote the Company brand and manage expectations.
  • Resolution of disputes and contractual interpretation issues.
  • Support mobilisation of key contracts commercially with robust processes.
  • Work with key suppliers in pre and post contract environments.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualification.
  • Extensive years post qualification experience in a senior role
  • Essential Criteria Skills & Experience.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Rail industry experience.
  • Strategic mindset.
  • Competent in Microsoft office suite of applications.
  • Ability to time-manage, set priorities and work to strict deadlines.
  • Methodical style of working.
  • Ability to develop and recruit staff.

Technical competencies:

  • Detailed understanding of the contract conditions used in the Rail industry
  • Awareness of industry issues.
  • Excellent health and safety awareness.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience in a Contracting QS role.
  • Experience of Design and Build Contracts.
  • Experience of NEC3 range of contracts.
  • IOSH managing Safely.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with the company systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Deliver financial results on projects through effective commercial and subcontract management.
  • Commercially manage the bid and tender process.
  • Ensure provision of all cost/commercial information required under the contract(s) (Reporting, Cashflows and Forecasts, etc.)
  • Negotiation / resolution of variations and claims with clients and subcontractors.
  • Ensure that all contemporary records are kept by the project team members for use in supporting claims, extensions of time, and the evaluation of variations.
  • Co-ordinate the submission in a timely manner of change requests, with price and programme effects, for subsequent agreement.
  • Lead the commercial management of subcontract accounts.
  • Leadership and management of subordinates and wider commercial team members
  • Promote a team-working environment.
  • Promote the company safety culture.

The Individual:

  • Experience of delivering commercial solutions on contracts of high value and of a complex nature.
  • A Legal understanding of relevant contracts.
  • Track record of winning and delivering work.
  • Good negotiator who achieves their objectives.
  • Engages with the Company values.
  • Ability to influence others at multiple levels internally and externally.
  • Strong desire to further Client relationships whilst ensuring that contractual entitlements are not compromised.
  • Team player.
  • Assertive with an ability to retain a good working relationship with bidding teams and customer.
  • Determination to develop and coach junior members of the commercial team.
  • Ability to summarize complex issues and financial positions for presentation to senior management.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to succeed.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good negotiation skills.
