Role Outline:
You will be part of an exciting new initiative. ABB and SNC-Lavalin have signed an agreement to form a joint venture (JV) for the execution of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) projects for electrical substations. By combining ABB’s world-leading technology and its market leadership position in power transmission and distribution with SNC-Lavalin’s strengths and in delivering infrastructure projects, the joint venture will help meet the evolving need of power grids across the globe for safe, reliable and state-of-the-art electrical substations.

Substations are key elements in power grid infrastructure that facilitate the efficient transmission and distribution of electricity. They control and protect power flows, connect power stations to the grid and link transmission and distribution networks as well as end consumers. ABB is a world leader in air-insulated, gas-insulated and hybrid electrical substations with voltage levels up to 1,200 kV. These substations facilitate the efficient and reliable transmission and distribution of electricity with minimum environmental impact. They serve utility, industry and commercial customers as well as sectors including railways, urban transportation and renewables.

We are now looking for a Business Controller to join our EPC project office in Baden, Switzerland.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for all financial matters of the Swiss legal entity
• Act as a strong business partner in executing the business strategy
• Drive a culture of accountability and simplification and be part of global harmonization projects
• Responsible for the preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial results of the legal entity
• Obtain a comprehensive understanding of project details and risk necessary for future planning, analysis and reporting; contribute to monthly and quarterly project reviews
• Active participation in the tender preparation process, assess commercial and financial risks and opportunities, contribute to defining mitigation plans for risks identified and action plans to materialize opportunities
• Produce annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, estimates and other reports requested by Corporate finance
• Responsible for the daily cash management of the legal entity. Responsible for securing guarantees and bonds, and implementing a proper hedging strategy
• Responsible for the coordination of relocation and facility management of the office space (real estate strategy)
• Responsible for the internal controls and authorization process for all accounting activities
• Review and reconciliation of project status reports
• Establish an efficient process around billing, AR, AP, expense claims and payroll with shared service providers
• Prepare accounting entries, project cost controlling reports, financial statements and banking statements
• Ensure compliance with company procedures
• Supervises the finance team
• Hands-on problem solver

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and/or a Swiss Accounting Certification, CPA title is an asset
• Understanding of the Swiss accounting standards, relevant local Tax issues and IFRS accounting rules for construction contracts
• Minimum of ten (10) years of accounting experience in a project environment
• Knowledge of engineering and construction (E&C) business
• Good, analytical decision-making and problem-solving skills as well as ability to quickly adapt to changing situations and work under pressure
• Must have experience in managing a team
• Autonomy, rigor, ethics, flexibility, adaptability, persuasiveness
• Proficiency in Office Suite, knowledge of VBA considered a bonus
• Experience working with SAP ERP an asset
• Experience working with Oracle or Accpac is an asset
• Experience working with Oracle Hyperion an asset
• Fluent in English is a must and (Swiss) German an asset
