The Green Line LRT (light rail transit) Project is the largest infrastructure investment in Calgary’s history. At 10-kms, it comes with $6.2billion in commitments from the Government of Canada, Government of Alberta and The City of Calgary. The Transportation Management Specialist will be responsible for completing this work for any of our self-performed work such as the I&M, supporting existing Enabling Works and ensuring compliance and coordination across all contracts throughout the implementation phase. This position would ultimately be responsible for chairing the Transportation Management Committee for the project.

This role will be based in Calgary, AB.

Your role within the team:

  • Develop an overarching Transportation Management Plan that addresses the approach to overseeing the coordination and interface of the individual Transportation Management Plans required to be submitted by each contractor for the purpose of managing any self-directed City work, contractor interfaces and risk mitigation.
  • Coordinate all Transportation Management Activities across the various Green Line contracts to ensure interfaces are effectively managed and resolve conflicts or disputes between contracts when they arise.
  • Liaise with Mobility to set out prioritization of Temporary Traffic Controls and related permitting activities to support the effective management of the various Green Line contracts.
  • Ensure compliance of, and implementation on “self-directed” Early Works of the requirements set out in Schedule 25 – Transportation Management.
  • Ensure contractor compliance of the following activities, and in instances where The City is “self-directing” Early Works, shall be responsible for the following activities:
    • Supervise the implementation, maintenance and removal of all instances of Temporary Traffic Control.
    • Maintain records of all Temporary Traffic Control Inspection Reports in accordance with this Section 5 and make them available upon request by The City.
    • Submit Temporary Traffic Control Inspection Reports pursuant to this Schedule 25.
    • Take immediate action to correct deficiencies with respect to Temporary Traffic Control and document the corrections in the Temporary Traffic Control Inspection Report.
    • Have a qualified designate in place.
    • Be located on the project site office and available on call at all times
    • Carry out emergency traffic control operations in accordance with Schedule 9 – Safety and System Assurance and be a member of the Transportation Management Committee.
    • Responsible for coordinating a transportation management committee (“Transportation Management Committee”) that will be comprised of Project Co (this includes the CJV and all other Contractors), The City, Governmental Authority representatives and Emergency Service Providers that shall meet on a bi-weekly basis.

The ideal candidate:

  • Brings a minimum of ten years of previous experience in transportation design and management for large, complex construction projects through urban areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying for Road Permits and the use of the City of Calgary’s ‘e Permit’ system.
  • Demonstrated experience and capabilities in the use of the City of Calgary's Temporary Traffic Controls Manual
  • Ability to manage the activities set out in Schedule 25 – Transportation Management across multiple contracts.
