Insights Building a Better Future: Insights from a Saudi Assistant Project Manager
Meet Mohammad Alnoshan, a young and driven civil engineer with a promising career in project management. In this Q&A, he shares his experiences and insights about his journey as an assistant project manager at Faithful and Gould, member of AtkinsRéalis Group.
Can you tell us a little bit about your career journey?
Mohammad started his career as a site civil engineer for a class A contractor in Saudi Arabia. He then worked for a real estate development company before joining Faithful and Gould as an assistant project manager for the King Salman Park project.
What is the role of an Assistant Project Manager?
As an Assistant Project Manager, Mohammad assists the project manager in delivering the project within the framework of risk, sustainability, and environmental considerations. His main responsibility is to maintain focus on time, cost, and quality. This includes monitoring and reporting on the contractor's progress, liaising with clients, consultants, and contractors, attending meetings and workshops, and advising clients on matters pertaining to cost, scope, and schedule.
Tell us a bit about the project you are working on.
The King Salman Park project is one of Riyadh's four mega projects, which aim to promote the city's position among the world's top 100 most liveable cities. Covering over 169 square kilometers, it will be one of the biggest city parks worldwide, featuring a wide variety of environmental, cultural, recreational, and sports activities that will significantly enhance the life quality of all Riyadh residents. The project will also host many facilities, including a Royal Art Complex, a National Theatre Art Academy, museums and galleries, a Royal Golf Course, and more.
What is the best thing about your career?
According to Mohammad, the best thing about his job is the opportunity to learn new things on each project. He finds it rewarding to be a part of projects that change the world and improve lives, leaving a legacy for future generations to admire.
What are some of the challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them?
Mohammad hasn't faced any significant challenges in his career at Faithful and Gould yet, but he stresses the importance of patience, hard work, and soft skills such as problem-solving flexibility, adaptability, interpersonal skills, and communication skills.
What advice would you give to other Saudis who would like to grow their career in project management?
To grow in project management Mohammad advises having an honest and hardworking attitude, being patient, and developing soft skills. He also highlights the importance of learning from team members, knowing their strengths and weaknesses, and being willing to adapt and improve.
