insights Embracing motherhood and career: Srijana's journey with AtkinsRéalis

In January 2024, Srijana embarked on a new chapter in her engineering career, joining AtkinsRealis as a Chartered Structural Engineer. With six years of experience on a wide variety of projects, Srijana brought not only technical expertise but also a passion for innovation and collaboration.

Four years prior, she was honored with the Young Achievers award by Engineers Australia, a recognition bestowed by the National Association of Women in Construction in Australia and she kept her focus on continuous professional development. However, Srijana's journey to success hasn't been without its challenges. Couple years later, she faced the monumental task of balancing her professional aspirations with the joys and responsibilities of motherhood.

Taking a maternity break, Srijana embraced this new phase of her life with grace and determination. It was during this hiatus that she made the decision to pursue and obtain her Chartership certification, a testament to her unwavering commitment to professional growth.

Returning to the workforce, Srijana found support at AtkinsRealis. As a company, we are committed to flexibility & for Srijana that was a game-changer, allowing her to work from home twice a week and spend invaluable time with her child while also excelling in her career. Srijana’s responsibilities includes a mix of design of structures on buildings and infrastructure projects as well as design management and delivery of structural design packages working closely with GTC in India and Cairo. She has been an integral part of notable projects like Mukaab and Hydrostor.

Reflecting on her experience, Srijana highlights three key reasons why AtkinsRealis stands out as an employer of choice for young mothers:

  1. Flexibility of Work: AtkinsRealis prioritizes results over rigid schedules, empowering employees to thrive irrespective of their physical location. For Srijana, this flexibility means she can seamlessly integrate her personal and professional life without compromising on either.
  2. Great Team Dynamics: The supportive culture has been instrumental in Srijana's success. She emphasizes how her team members understand the demands of parenthood and readily offer assistance during challenging times. Knowing that she has a reliable support system enables her to navigate the complexities of motherhood and career with confidence.

Leveraging advanced technologies, teams seamlessly collaborate regardless of geographical barriers. This enables Srijana to work efficiently and effectively, knowing that distance is no longer a hindrance to productivity.
