We have an exciting opportunity for an Asset Inspector to join our Asset Management team here at Atkins.  Our Infrastructure Division is supporting many of the major infrastructure programmes across the UK as well as major international projects. Our focus is to deliver effective outcomes by optimising the performance of both new and existing assets. The Infrastructure Asset Management Practice is a key component of this, enabling us to ensure customers’ outcomes are realised in the projects we undertake as well as delivering bespoke sector-specific solutions that optimise asset performance. Atkins provides the opportunity to influence some of the most significant infrastructure programmes in the UK as well as develop and implement innovative solutions across the sector.

Our Infrastructure Asset Management practice delivers data-driven solutions as well as providing asset management, regulatory, and technical advice to a range of clients, both in the UK and internationally. We have an opportunity for an Asset Inspector to join our team and who would immediately add value to the clients that we are working with. Location of role is flexible across the UK – with hybrid-working supported – with potential home offices including Birmingham, Bristol, Epsom, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Peterborough, and Warrington. Travel is essential and this role will qualify for a business needs car.

Your Purpose:

As an Asset Inspector your work will involve visiting assets and carrying out a visual condition inspection across a wide range of civil engineering assets.

These assets span across a range asset types in the water and flood management sectors including water treatment works and embankments.

You'll receive training that will allow you to assess the engineering condition of these structures and the risk they pose to the Health and Safety of our client’s staff and the public. This is an exciting growth area for Atkins, with many of our infrastructure clients looking for support in undertaking condition assessments of assets to inform their corporate risk register and investment plans.  Asset inspections also plays a vital part in “better asset management” that optimises the asset over its whole lifecycle.

We want you to help us grow our business by:

  • Carrying out visual condition assessments across a variety of asset types.
  • Diligently identifying and recording defects.
  • Organising and updating the inspection schedule, including arranging access to sites.
  • Supporting our clients improve their asset data.
  • Being able to record your results in written report or electronic system.
  • Plan and manage all aspects of the health & safety associated with asset inspection.
  • You must be physically fit as you'll be out in all seasons and weather; many of our assets are off the beaten track and you will need to be confident in working remotely.

What can you bring?

Ideally you will have carried out asset inspection activities previously. Furthermore, a passion for assert management and be working towards or have obtained the IAM certificate.

Additional Skills required:

  • You will need good inter-personal skills to develop relationships clients.
  • Deliver work by planning, tracking, gathering, and maintaining data/information.
  • You will be relied on to use your own initiative, be well organised and be able to balance delivering a range of tasks.
  • Confidence using information technology and computer systems is essential, Microsoft software; database/asset management experience is advantageous. It is likely you will use either Atkins or client based mobile applications for recording the inspection outcomes.
  • Have good written skills, to support the preparation of inspection reports.
  • A basic knowledge of Asset Management and International Standard (ISO55001) is helpful.
  • You must be confident around water and remotely in all weathers and seasons.
  • A Bachelor's degree in relevant subject is desirable, other qualifications and suitable experience considered.
  • A full UK driving license is required for this role.
  • Desirable if you have any prior knowledge of utilising Enterprise Asset Management systems (EAMs) for the configuring, scheduling or delivery of inspections.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary, it will be discussed with you at interview. The vetting process is delivered by United Kingdom Security Vetting (UKSV) and may require candidates to provide proof of residency in the UK of 5 years or longer.
