Assistant Project Manager

The core workload for the Transportation business is the delivery of multidisciplinary design’s ranging from feasibility studies to detailed design, working either direct for rail and highway industry clients like Network Rail, Train Operating Companies, Transport Scotland, Local Authorities or increasingly for Design and Build Contractors.

Atkins strength lies in the depth of experience that our teams have in each of the different disciplines that makes up these design contracts, and in our understanding of how these disciplines fit together so that we deliver an integrated solution to our clients.
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to be based in our Glasgow Office who will assist in the delivery of these single or multi-disciplinary schemes.

Responsibilities

• You will be responsible for:
• Assisting with managing multidisciplinary teams within a project context;
• Assisting the Project Manager with commercial, risk, financial management and change control on projects;
• Assisting Bid Managers during tenders and provide co-ordination on the production of technical bid documents and cost estimates;
• Assisting the Project Manager with ensuring compliance with CDM and other health, safety and environmental regulatory standards and requirements;
• Assisting/leading the implementation and use of electronic document management systems;
• Assisting with the completion of Project Summary Reports (PSR’s), Time/Cost Resource reports, variation reports and reports of progress on a monthly basis for the client;
• Assisting in the provision of programmes, HSQE plans and Project Execution Plans for project;
• Co-operating with quality, safety and environmental objectives and contribute, where appropriate, to Atkins Transportation commitment for continual improvement;
• Adhering to Atkins corporate processes and management systems;
• Assisting with developing and maintaining internal and external client relationships;
• Management of single discipline projects;

Experience and Skills

• Knowledge and understanding of design processes, procedures, change control, check and reviewing requirements;
• Ability to liaise with a wide variety of staff and Clients at all levels;
• Clear knowledge of work procedures, and ability to communicate those to others;
• An effective team member able to apply knowledge gained;
• Flexible and enthusiastic and able to make sound judgements;
• Experience of the implementation and management of electronic document management systems;
• Appreciation of the commercial aspects of project management;
• Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team and under own initiative;


Qualifications

• Degree or HND in project management or relevant engineering is desirable but not essential;
• The Individual
• Be self-motivated and able to work as part of a part team;
• Demonstrable experience in a similar role;
• Ideally experience of working within the Rail and Highway environment;
• Show flexibility in working patterns and locations to meet deadlines as and when required;
• Have excellent communications skills – written and oral;
• Have good presentation, report writing and reviewing skills;
• Possess a willingness to work with Clients and their project teams;
• Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the challenges that various disciplines face and what steps can be taken in this role to help them in the execution of their work;
• Have a reliable and responsible attitude, pay attention to detail and have a flexible approach to achieve the best outcomes;
• Demonstrate the ability to identify and input to activities in support of the wider business objectives that may draw upon skills in addition to those outlined above;
• Be keen to excel in a career in multi-disciplinary project management;
• Demonstrable problem solving skills and a positive attitude irrespective of the situation and circumstance;

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
