AtkinsRéalis has an exciting opportunity to appoint an Associate Director focused on our Nature Based Solutions services. AtkinsRéalis already has great technical capability and offers nature-based solutions to clients in the UK and internationally. We see the potential for this area of work as significant and are seeking a new Associate Director who can see and capture this pivotal opportunity for the business and our clients.

An important part of the role is to be the integrator of technical specialisms to drive joined-up services for clients which can tackle multiple environmental, engineering and just sustainability challenges. You will work collaboratively with AtkinsRéalis’ technical teams to solve clients’ problems, ensuring technical best practice, knowledge sharing and process optimisation in our approach to projects. It is a role that brings together deep technical expertise with the collaborative approach required to develop relationships externally and internally.

Joining a well-established and successful team, you will work with our specialists from across the Practice to win and deliver our portfolio of projects. You will champion high standards of performance, and influence project development. As an expert in the field, you will undertake your own work to an excellent standard, and review the work of others, leading on projects and frameworks as appropriate. You will work closely with our clients to develop trusted relationships, supporting them in a confident, professional manner. You will lead on bid preparation and develop new areas of business for the team. As an Associate Director, you will be a well-recognised specialist, leading complex projects in your areas of expertise, mentoring and supporting more junior staff, and will be expected to work closely with the team to further develop the group’s objectives, portfolio of projects and clients, and digital tools.

If you’d like to take on this challenge for the Nature Based Solutions Service Line, then we’d love to hear from you.

We can be fully flexible around UK office location for this vacancy as access to our clients is more important than a specific office location.

Key objectives of the role:

  • Act as first point of contact for opportunities relating to Nature-based Solutions.
  • Draw on AtkinsRéalis’ diverse expertise globally to develop a compelling value proposition and services strategy for the target markets, differentiating AtkinsRéalis from the competition and positioning as market leaders.
  • Develop a clear service capability offering that can be easily marketed to clients.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary technical teams from across Environment to deliver across business lines and markets.
  • Identify strategic skills and capability requirements to enable forward-facing service growth.
  • Achieve business growth by leading and supporting client relationships and bidding for strategic projects.
  • Bring technical experience and expertise to project delivery.

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Identify, inspire, and coordinate the capability across technical teams, integrating complementary services to meet client and market needs.
  • Lead strategic relationships with clients and cascade client requirements back into the Practice to further service development and innovation.
  • Engage with, and share progress with, Practice and Market teams.
  • Act as a connector of key specialists and teams across the AtkinsRéalis group to collaborate on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Use your technical skills to contribute to project delivery and act as Project Director on projects within your technical field as required.

What you’ll bring:

  • Key technical strengths in the application of nature-based solutions in a range of settings that could include habitat restoration, water management, catchment management, agricultural land-use, climate adaptation, natural flood management, nutrient neutrality, biodiversity, environmental planning, blue-green infrastructure and designing nature-responsive, future-ready cities.
  • Subject matter expertise with a strong technical fluency in standards and tools in the context of nature-based solutions, understanding the implications of land, soils, and water in the context of nature based-carbon removals, biodiversity improvements and land use change, and the environmental impacts of infrastructure projects.
  • Client centric approach, with a deep understanding of current needs, likely market direction, opportunities, and challenges.
  • A track-record of identifying, winning and delivering value-creating opportunities, including designing NBS products and services.
  • A collaborative approach to working and innovating with colleagues and clients, shaping a variety of perspectives into cohesive client-facing propositions.
  • Awareness and understanding of relevant existing and emerging environmental law, policies, statutory procedures and regulations, both UK and international.
  • Awareness and understanding of evolving nature-based carbon standards relating to infrastructure and nature-based projects, as well as the carbon offsetting market.
  • Demonstrable experience of working within integrated multidisciplinary teams on complex projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to adapt style to different audiences, including non-specialists.
  • A digital mindset with an understanding of the potential for digital tools, geospatial decision-making, and data management on developing innovative approaches in projects and NBS.
  • An established and strong network of clients and other specialists in the NBS field.
