Civil Structural Engineer (Part-time)

  1. Bristol
  2. Nuclear
R-120828

Take the lead in global nuclear safety.

Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? How about joining our talented team, where everyone has a voice, and together we face our clients' problems head-on. It's a diverse and inclusive work environment where world-class talent knows no distinctions.
We know that different people have different priorities, which is why we're here to support you. Flexible and remote working is a central part of our culture. So talk to us about what's ideal for you – from reduced weeks to buying more leave over school holidays. And if you're returning from a career break, ask us how we can help you transition back into work with us.

As a Civil Structural Engineer in our Nuclear & Power Division, you'll be playing a central role, creating spaces and places that matter. We've been in the sector for over 50 years and delivered over 7 million workhours, which makes us the most prominent nuclear new-build organisation in the UK. In this highly technical role, you'll work end-to-end on a broad range of projects with plenty of opportunities to grow and challenge yourself.

Your purpose:

Part-time opportunities like this don’t come along very often.

Are you an experienced civil or structural engineer, who’s built technical experience in highly regulated environments – we’re thinking nuclear, power or rail – but are now looking for a part-time role?

You may be a returning parent, seeking to rebalance your work/life commitments, or perhaps you’re considering retiring but know you’ve still got something left in the tank!

The AtkinsRéalis commitment to diversity means we live and breathe acceptance and support. We will value the knowledge and skills you bring, and ensure you have the tools, working pattern and training (if necessary) to work on some of the UK’s biggest infrastructure projects.

Our teams are growing, so you’ll be leading on a wide range of new build nuclear projects including Hinkley Point C, Sizewell C, SMRs and future fusion technologies. You’ll cultivate strong working relationships with clients and colleagues alike and continue to share your knowledge and support our junior team members to grow, too.If you have experience in any of these (we don’t need you to have them all) please get in touch:

  • Relevant level of professional experience which could be from civil-structural design and analysis (steelwork and/or reinforced concrete), research and development, project engineering or design consultancy.
  • Undertaking and/or review the design of new building structures.
  • Able to work collaboratively from our offices and across our client sites to understand clients’ needs and deliver to time, cost and quality.

What you can bring:

Are you excited by the prospect of developing your technical capability into something more specialist, or energised by the idea of supporting a team on one of our many world-renowned projects?

Do you enjoy exercising a questioning mind and perfecting your inquisitiveness to influence project outcomes?

Are you capable of taking a complex problem and digesting it to form a concise and proportionate solution?

At AtkinsRéalis you will aspire to:

  • Develop your technical proficiency in civil-structural engineering.
  • Contribute to world renowned projects and utilise best in class digital technology.
  • Innovate on your projects, inspire your colleagues, and impress our clients.
  • Become a leader, nurture our client relationships, and develop our staff.

So, you'll be creating the right safe and resilient systems across nuclear power, renewables, decarbonisation development, new builds and energy efficiency.

We value your diversity and believe that everyone deserves to thrive – no exceptions. You'll be part of a culture committed to finding new talent from underrepresented groups. We're Disability Confident, an Inclusive Employer, and support STEM Returners. We also want to see more women in senior roles at AtkinsRéalis. In the energy sector, we've signed up to the AXIS Pledge, promising to make equal pay, equal leadership, and equal opportunities a reality.
