Job Description

AtkinsRéalis are recruiting for a site-based experienced and highly skilled Construction Director specializing in steel construction to lead and oversee all steel-related aspects of NEOM THE LINE in KSA. This role is critical in ensuring the highest standards of structural integrity, safety, and quality while managing teams, timelines, and budgets effectively. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in steel construction and a proven record of managing large-scale infrastructure projects from inception through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership - Lead all steel construction activities for the mega infrastructure project, ensuring alignment with overall project goals and timelines. Oversee the development and implementation of project plans, schedules, and milestones, coordinating with other construction departments. Manage, mentor, and direct a multidisciplinary team of engineers, foremen, supervisors, and subcontractors.
  • Technical Oversight - Ensure that all steel structures and installations meet the project’s design specifications, quality, and safety standards. Review and approve all technical designs, drawings, and structural calculations related to steel components, providing input to optimize construction methods. Oversee steel fabrication, transportation, assembly, and installation phases, troubleshooting issues as they arise to keep the project on track.
  • Budgeting and Cost Control - Develop, monitor, and control budgets specific to steel construction, ensuring efficient allocation and utilization of resources. Implement cost-saving strategies without compromising on quality, safety, or project requirements. Track expenses related to materials, labour, and equipment, adjusting forecasts and schedules as necessary.
  • Risk Management and Compliance - Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with steel construction activities, implementing corrective actions as needed. Ensure all work complies with regulatory standards, project specifications, and industry best practices, maintaining a high level of quality assurance. Conduct regular safety inspections and enforce stringent health and safety protocols.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Collaborate closely with project stakeholders, including architects, designers, contractors, and government agencies, to ensure project alignment and regulatory compliance. Present progress reports and technical documentation to senior management and key stakeholders.
  • Innovation and Sustainability - Promote sustainable construction practices and identify innovative solutions to reduce material waste and improve project efficiency. Evaluate and integrate new technologies, materials, and methods to enhance steel construction outcomes.

Core Competencies

  • Extensive experience in construction, with significant time focused on steel construction in large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Proficient in construction software such as AutoCAD, BIM, and other project management tools.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with experience in cross-functional collaboration.
  • In-depth knowledge of steel construction materials, methods, codes, and standards.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and controlling costs.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder management and team coordination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • PMP, CCM, or other relevant project management certifications preferred.
