SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Intermodal group as a Design Build Sr. Project Manager for light rail transit programs located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States or western Canada.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

The Design Build Sr. Project Manager may participate within joint venture structures with other engineering companies on programs ranging from extensions of existing infrastructure or new build systems. The position of the Design Build Sr. Project Manager may work with owners to tender, award and manage Design Build Contracts or with Design Build contractors seeking to be awarded such mandates. In either role, the Design Build Sr. Project Manager will be the main point of contact between the Design Build Contractor and the owner. The Design Build Sr. Project Manager will provide the oversight and administration of the design-build construction contract in accordance with the owner’s policies and procedures. The Design Build Sr. Project Manager will establish and supervise a team of qualified supporting staff including, where appropriate, the joint venture’s engineering resources and will report directly to the program Project Director. The Design Build Sr. Project Manager will collaborate with the Design Builder, the owner and other third party agencies.

JOB DUTIES

Construction Administration.
  • Administer all aspects of the Design Build Contract on behalf of the client or the Design Builder. Coordinate construction site access, staging logistics, and construction interfaces between the Design Build Contractor, other contractors and local authorities. Review, modify, approve or reject the Design Build Contractor’s Progress Payment invoices for completed work. Resolve Design Build contract disputes and/or assist in claims analysis, mitigation and resolution. Oversee contract equipment start-up, testing and commissioning.
Design and Construction Submittals Review.
  • Coordinate the technical review of all Design Build Contractor design and construction submittals to confirm compliance with the Design Build Contract requirements. Coordinate the response to Requests for Information, submittals and design changes. Monitor or participate with the Design Build Contractor’s design progress, package development, and the review and comment resolution processes. Maintain and distribute current construction drawings and specifications
Quality Verification and Inspection Oversight.
  • Provide Quality Verification inspection and testing of the work performed by the Design Build Contractor. Account for Design Build Contractor issued Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs).
Safety and Security Oversight.
  • Monitor the Design Build Contractor’s compliance with its own safety programs.
Schedule Analysis and Oversight.
  • Review and provide comments on the Design Build Contractor’s supplied schedules. Review schedule impacts from change order cost proposals. Create internal schedules.
Cost Estimating.
  • Review the Design Build Contractor’s Schedule of Values, review change order cost proposals, develop Independent Cost Estimates and assist in negotiating change orders with the Design-Builder.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management.
  • Minimum 15 years of proven and progressive project management experience.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in large scale, complex design-build light rail transit projects.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS 

  • PE is required

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working on transit and rail projects.
  • Understanding of a Systems Engineering approach and its application to a light rail project.
  • Ability to function efficiently in a demanding work environment.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Client focused.
  • Results oriented.
  • High level of interpersonal and communication skills
