Our Buildings & Facilities Engineering Group in Western Canada is looking for an Electrical Engineer based in Calgary to join our growing team. In this role you will be responsible for the design and execution of projects ranging in size and complexity, with a focus defense, healthcare, municipal, federal, light industrial, transit, utilities, ports, institutional, and publicly funded projects. The successful candidate will also be responsible for developing and maintaining new and existing clients, coordinating skill-sets with other offices and disciplines, and satisfying customer requirements. As a valued member of our Buildings team working collaboratively as an Electrical Engineer, you will have a passion for Electrical in high-performance buildings of all types. Your technical knowledge of how all electrical components of building systems, contribute to building energy efficiency, will set you apart.

This position will be reporting to the Director, Engineering Services, Western Canada, responsible for engineering project work from conceptual design through to completion on wide variety of complex projects.
 

Your role within the team

  • Deliver the electrical design, calculations, and systems in multi-disciplinary projects from preliminary design through construction documents and contract administration phases.
  • Manage deliverables to meet financial targets and schedule.
  • Undertake Peer Reviews for quality control and quality assurance.
  • Review and complete design calculations and construction documents.
  • Provide detailed design engineering for drawings and specifications for electrical design in low and medium voltage, systems lighting, power distribution, grounding, fire alarm, communications and security systems, control/signal systems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of codes, standards, construction means and methods related to electrical engineering to ensure designs are optimized for construction practices within the building’s construction industry.

The ideal candidate

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in Canada. LEED AP and PMP certification considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years relevant experience designing and leading teams in the design of building electrical systems, including demonstrable experience in the design and specifying of HV/LV power distribution, emergency power and UPS, grounding, lighting, lighting controls, emergency lighting, fire alarm, passive telecommunications, lightning protection, CCTV and access control systems, in the listed building types above.
  • Proven expert knowledge of applicable Electrical Safety codes, Canadian Building codes, & various codes in IEEE, CSA, & NFPA.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in MS Office, Autodesk, AutoCAD, Revit, and/or Bentley MicroStation software, Lighting, and/or distribution software.
  • Experience leading a team of drafters & technologists, along with client management.
