The Role

Our Electrical Engineering team are experiencing significant demands to support exciting and world leading projects. We are interested in hearing from engineers with experience of military and civil projects to support current and emergent opportunities. We are looking for senior level engineers as well as this more junior engineers looking for their next step.

As part of our team you’ll be providing expert advice across various projects within the immediate and wider business. This role will involve contributing to project development, engineering specification preparation, reviewing design specifications and design drawings for verification and assurance, and the production and management of both technical and operational data. You will be an integral part of the delivery of engineering solutions in the Aerospace, Defence Security & Technology sector. You’ll be working closely with our clients, completing site and client office visits, project delivery and fixed term secondments.

The Person

Building and developing relationships is a key part of this role, and for a more senior role the management of the design process through the role of Lead Engineer on specific projects. You will be providing Client / Supplier design interface and management, and reviewing tender returns, equipment specifications, protection and control schematics, method statements, protection settings and commissioning documentation.

You will enjoy working in a team environment and using your expertise to contribute. If in a senior role you would be expected to have the desire and ability to lead bids, deliver and technically manage work either as a lead or part of a team. You will also have strong verbal and written communication skills, and excellent quantitative and problem-solving skills.

You’ll have working knowledge of individual relay designs, commissioning methodologies and be experienced in UK practices. In addition to having a positive attitude to health and safety (especially within the design process), you’ll also be able to demonstrate the following:

• Bachelor’s Degree and/ or Masters in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent), but candidates holding HNC/ HND qualifications and proven experience will also be considered.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with membership of IET for the senior role
• Knowledge of low voltage (LV) (<500Vac both 50Hz and 60Hz) and preferably direct current applications.
• Extensive Protection and Control experience in an Electrical Engineering role.
• Good understanding of fault calculations, protections settings and their applications.
• An eye for detail and taking pride in producing a high quality and finished product or result.
• Demonstrable ability to be able to communicate well, especially in the written form.

You may also demonstrate the below desirable requirements:

• Relevant Nuclear or Defence Sector experience and/or the desire to work in these industries.
• A good working knowledge of other design disciplines; e.g. high voltage (HV) (>500Vac) Plant, Mechanical Plant and Systems.
• Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, both hard-wired and software controlled.
• Experience in the delivery of engineering projects within teams of professional staff and individually.
• Experience of owning and delivering engineering projects individually or within teams of professional staff.
• Experience of site-based plant or plant operations.
• Experience in mentoring junior Electrical Engineers in task delivery – for the more senior role.
• Conversant with Health & Safety requirements and responsibilities under CDM Regulations.
