We’re looking for the next generation of engineers to design new power stations and innovative renewables concepts, extend the life of existing infrastructure and meet the world’s future energy needs.
Our Energy business has been pushing the engineering boundaries for over four decades, creating cleaner, safer and smarter energy. Join us and you will be helping us to design complex new schemes, assuring the longevity and integrity of existing infrastructure and delivering innovative solutions and consultancy advice to our core clients, all critical to the continuing success of our energy market. Operating in a number of sectors our staff achieve great things to meet the evolving needs of global energy markets. Overall, we all share the same mission - to improve lives through energy – one project and one day at a time.
What you’ll be doing
We have opportunities for graduates across a range of our Energy teams in the UK. From a Civil or Structural Engineering background, you could be working in one of the following teams, here’s a little about what they do;
Bristol – based here you could work across many aspects of the Energy market, including nuclear new build, generation or decommissioning, and renewables. We are looking for candidates who have studied civil or structural engineering at degree level, and are passionate about being part of key infrastructure projects. For example, you could find yourself working on some ground-breaking UK new build nuclear projects such as Hinkley Point C or Wylfa, or those further afield such as ITER in southern France.
Birmingham – Based here you will find yourself working on projects predominantly in the Power market carrying out Front End Engineering Design (FEED) and Design Assurance work for both National Grid and DNO’s. We also get involved in on-shore wind projects. The above work involves work largely in the high voltage Substation environment and in particular we do a significant amount of work on HV cable routing works in often challenging areas. Some of our current projects include Drakelow HV Substation Rationalisation works, Ninfield, Bolney & Richborough Substation (NEMO) & Dynamic Reactive Compensation works (all Design Assurance work). We’re looking for candidates who have a keen interest in civil feasibility, design and assessment
You could also…
In addition to some of the responsibilities you can see above for specific locations - As a graduate engineer, you could also be involved in;
- Supporting on some major projects across various areas of Energy from nuclear new build & decommissioning to offshore, wave and tidal energy
- Reviewing and developing designs to improve plants, equipment, structures and Energy related systems
- Carrying out surveys and site inspections, building strong client relationships
- Using a variety of engineering software packages, as well as 2D and 3D modelling for new designs and modifications
- Producing safety cases, reports and documentation to support the planning, design, operation, maintenance and decommissioning of Energy facilities
- Carrying out design and assessment for new build projects as well as additions, modifications and repairs to existing assets.
- Attending graduate networks & forums to help shape our scheme & graduate community activities
Who we’re looking for
You’ll be a talented graduate with a minimum 2.2 Master’s/MEng degree in Civil or Structural engineering.
You’ll have ambition, vision, enthusiasm and the drive to keep on developing your technical skills and achieve Chartered status. With a passion for working in a consultancy environment, you’ll want to work with customers and with teams who deliver to their customers and you’ll be adaptable and happy to cope with uncertainty. Communication and team-working will be your key skills as well as having the ability to apply your technical knowledge to analyse problems and create innovative solutions.
