Intermediate Coastal Engineer

AtkinsRéalis is currently looking for a forward thinking, creative and experienced Intermediate Coastal Engineer to join its Hydrological and Oceanic Sciences team. Recognized for your team spirit and keen interest in multidisciplinary projects, you will bring a strong background in the application of coastal engineering principles and practices, coastal hydrodynamics, coastal geomorphology, wave theory, engineering analysis and design support for coastal projects.

Specific coastal design tasks will cover the development and evaluation of design criteria, plans and specifications for new and repaired coastal structures.

The successful candidate will possess great communication skills and have a demonstrated ability to work within a high functioning team. As part of the role, you will have the opportunity to travel as required to project sites. Your ability to work without supervision alongside your strong project management skills will serve you well in this role. This role will be based in Vancouver, BC.

Your role within the team:

  • Application of coastal design techniques and a solid knowledge of trends in the coastal sector.

  • Coordinate work with other engineers, coastal engineering professionals and support services personnel.

  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards and quality control.

  • Plan, program, carry out or coordinate the detailed engineering phases of a part of a major project or all a medium-sized project.

  • Perform preliminary engineering design and/or review design and drafting work of junior engineers, designers or CAD technicians.

  • Awareness of project budgets, contracting strategies, scheduling document preparation.

The ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree (preferred) in ocean or coastal engineering, or closely related field. Fluency in the working language: English, both spoken and written; French is an asset.

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in the implementation of dredging, flood risk reduction, shore protection or stabilization, breakwaters, living shorelines, beach and marine habitat restoration, metocean studies, coastal planning and management and marine infrastructure construction projects since graduation with a consulting firm or marine related client.

  • Experience developing construction documents including drawing sets, specifications, cost estimating, not required but an asset.

  • EGBC member or possibility of obtaining P.Eng designation within 2 years of hiring.

  • Proven knowledge of program coding (e.g. MathCAD or MATLAB) and application of coastal engineering numerical modelling software (SWAN, MIKE21, BREAKWAT, TELEMAC, etc.).

Compensation Range:  

Expected compensation for this role is between $71,300 - $118,800 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, location, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
