We are seeking a Junior Process Safety Engineer to join our growing Net Zero Energy Business. This position would be based in Glasgow or Edinburgh, with a flexible mixture of home-working and office collaboration time expected.

Our Net Zero business unit is a multi-disciplinary team that offers a stimulating variety of work, from feasibility studies through to detailed design. Within our Net Zero Engineering Business, the team has a focus on diversifying the energy mix in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. This includes power generation (from gas, biomass, hydro and nuclear), natural gas cavern storage, hydrogen (production & cavern storage), and industrial decarbonisation.

As a Process Safety Engineer in our Net Zero Energy Business, you'll be part of a talented team reviewing complex new schemes to ensure our clients' assets adhere to safety regulations. With existing relationships with the major clients in the net zero sector, we offer a hugely stimulating variety of work, within a team which is rapidly developing to support the delivery of global net zero targets.

Your Purpose:

Are you a Junior Engineer, looking for the next steps in your career? If you have exceptional interpersonal skills, thrive on working on exciting projects and have interest in the Energy sector then we want to hear from you.

We are looking for a junior process safety engineer to work within our Process Safety team supporting a wide range of projects (from hydrogen production and to nuclear new build projects).

Examples of the types of work you will be involved in: 

  • Consequence modelling of Major Accident Hazard scenarios.
  • Developing key inputs to Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRAs).
  • Hazardous Area Classification & DSEAR assessments.
  • Preparing HSE study reports to line with client standards and to support project requirements.
  • Depending on project phase these may include philosophy documents or detailed calculations.
  • Supporting HAZOP and LOPA workshops, including preparing Terms of Reference and undertaking scribing activities.

  • In addition to building excellent relationships within AtkinsRéalis, you’ll be able to build excellent relationships with our clients, being able to provide proactive support to a team or client within a project. You should have a high attention to detail to deliver quality deliverables.
  • In addition to having strong communication and analytical skills, other key requirements include:
    • University Degree in an appropriate science, engineering, or equivalent experience and qualification.
    • An appropriate level of relevant industrial experience which could be derived from research and development, project engineering, operations, or contract or consultancy field.
    • A strong quality, safety, security and environmental focus.
    • Demonstrable ability to be able to communicate well, especially with the written form.
