Onshore HV Cable Engineer

AtkinsRéalis one of the world’s leading providers of engineering professional consulting and support services with offices across Ireland.

We are looking for Onshore HV cable Engineer with relevant experience respectively required immediately to in the Dublin, Cork, Galway and Dundalk office.

Types of projects you will get involved will be as follows:

HVDC Interconnectors HVAC Interconnectors HVAC and HVDC Offshore Windfarm projects.

Typical HV Cable Engineer activities:

  • Successful applicant will be expected to provide technical expertise into bids and proposals and to represent the company in client meetings as appropriate.
  • HVDC/HVAC cable calculations including develop cable burial route risk assessments, landfall, and cable protection systems for offshore, subsea applications.
  • Gathering and correlating engineering data using established and well-defined procedures, and generating detailed cable reports.
  • Developing detailed offshore routine engineering assignments involving HVAC/HVDC, IAC and export cable design, for both static and dynamic systems.
  • Proposing approaches to solve problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Reviewing and optimising design, routing, installation, commissioning and de-commissioning solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Typically, with relevant experience.
  • An electrical/electronic/power engineering or similar qualification, such as an HNC, HND, BSc/BEng and/or an MSc/MEng.
  • Professionally qualified in Electrical Engineering (CEng or working towards chartership).
  • This role requires the ability to implement software tools to provide desktop studies and generate reports, using Cymcap, Cableizer, COMSOL software as an example.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; experienced in creating and presenting technical reports; and responding to clients’ technical questions.
  • Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements, lead technical discussions with customers and develop client relationships.
  • Understanding of HVAC and HVDC transmission principles and requirements management.
  • Understanding of functional characteristics of power systems.
  • Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality and engineering integrity of the solution.
  • Prepared to take part in working groups such as CIGRE, IET and other professional bodies.
