We in Intelligent Mobility and Smart technology (IMST) provide consultancy and engineering services across a wide range of technology and data related solutions for the (safe, efficient, effective, and environmentally friendly) movement of people and freight around our transport network.

As Practice Manager you will sit within the leadership team for IMST, working alongside another practice manager and reporting to the Director of the IMST business. You will work collaboratively with the senior team to drive growth, support the development of our people, improve operational performance, and ensure technical excellence across the whole of the IMST Practice.
Our Transportation business is structured according to Practices and Market teams and as Practice Manager you will work closely with Market and Client Directors accountable for each of our key client accounts. This includes Market Directors responsible for our relationships with Highways England, Department for Transport and local authorities and who develop our wider business strategy for these clients.
Role Responsibilities:
This is a key leadership role covering the following areas:
- The Practice Manager is responsible for leading the practice, day to day, providing, pastoral care to staff, guidance and support to the team on career development, collaborating with other parts of IMST for resource management for bids and projects, recruitment, and leveraging growth in the region’s capacity through staff development and recruitment.
- Support the IMST Practice Director in delivering the performance targets for the wider practice.
- Work winning and delivery - aligning the practice to client accounts identified in the Transportation business plan, developing the specific growth plan.
- Technical leadership - ensuring that our IMST team deploys and continually develops the best technical and management solutions for our clients, and that we strive for and promote technical excellence. This is expected to include taking roles as Project Director or Technical Reviewer on our most strategically important commissions.
- Ensuring we have sufficient resources with the right skills to deliver our current and future market strategies. This includes those within the practice, colleagues in our GDC and through our supply chain partners.
- Promote IMST and wider AtkinsRéalis externally.
- The Practice Manager role is expected to blend client-facing project delivery and work- winning activities with operational management and overall practice leadership. The role will work as part of the IMST leadership team, supporting the delivery of our core service lines as part of a national business.
Requirements:
- Proven experience in a leadership role.
- Authentic leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience of growing teams and developing and harnessing talent in a consultancy environment.
- A performance driven individual with strong collaborative behaviours to work closely with the IMST Practice Director and SLT, Market Directors, and other key stakeholders to meet business targets.
- Customer focus with excellent relationship management skills.
- Experience in working in Intelligent Mobility/Smart Technology / Intelligent Transport Systems preferable.
