Principal Engineer Regulation & Licensing

  1. Silchester
R-121328

Let's shape the future of nuclear together.

You might know us for the great work we do across our wide variety of projects. We're proud to say it's thanks to our people's diversity of thought, expertise and knowledge. And when you join us, you'll be a part of this genuinely collaborative environment, where everyone's voice is valued and treated equally.

We're passionate about what we do, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. Simply put, this a great place to be. So, when it comes to your life outside of work, ask us about our flexible and remote working policies designed to help you get the most out of life.

You are in a prominent position in your current job, with management and governance responsibilities and authority, and a strong expectation on your Safety Leadership competences. There has been an ongoing emphasis in your career on leadership behaviours and encouraging a culture of individual and collective accountability and understanding and you have a track record of influencing at a senior level to achieve improvements. You make sound decisions when under pressure and you are comfortable in reaching conclusions based on limited information.

Your purpose:

Your strong influencing skills support an ability to persuade others by working collaboratively and flexibly with all stakeholders, especially those with the authority to support change. You show an appropriate balance of interpersonal sensitivity, self-awareness and assertiveness and carefully choose your approach to match the situation. These skills are allied with social intelligence, humility, and leadership skills, including being comfortable with giving and receiving advice at all levels within a business, from those delivering operations to senior management at up to (potentially) Board executive levels.

You have a deep and demonstrable understanding of the regulatory framework for a high hazard and/or safety critical industry and a track record in applying or helping others in applying it to facilities and operations and/or proposals for new facilities and activities – that may be UK based or may be another national framework. You are probably of Chartered or Professional Engineer status, possibly at Fellow level, or you have an equivalent previous experience and history of responsibility supported by an appropriate training route and breadth of professional experience. Does this sound like you? In which case, we’d love you to apply for this role.

What you can bring:

  • Can you provide collaborative and supportive advice and leadership to help solve complex permissioning and organizational change issues in a safety critical utility industry?
  • Are you energized by supporting our, clients from operational to executive level, in delivering critical national infrastructure capabilities including Carbon Net Zero ambitions?
  • Do you have an experience of helping people be a key part of assuring success in both programme and safety delivery, independent of the technology?
  • Do you have experience of leading teams of staff of different skills and levels to deliver complex and evolving objectives?

The people we are looking for will be expected to deliver creative and innovative consultancy advice to existing and new clients who are critical to the success of future energy delivery. We have 2 posts to fill in early 2025, and we know that people of your quality do not come quickly.

The posts are at either Chief Engineer or Principal Engineer level, with reward packages aligned to those roles, and with a differentiator of experience, ambition, and leadership behaviours. The professional delivery context is against the UK’s national regulation and licensing regimes, but we are looking for diversity in experience, education, and professional qualification such that who you are is at least as important to us as where you come from. You can expect to be leading teams on complex projects or being engaged with clients’ leadership cohorts almost immediately, so you will not lack for interesting challenges.
