Project Director - SMR New Build (Nuclear Island, Construction Island)

Come join us in reshaping the future with AtkinsRéalis. AtkinsRéalis is dedicated in engineering a better future for our planet and its people.

AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups. We have been providing a wide range of services to the nuclear industry in Canada and around the world since for more than 60 years.  We are proud to be the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology and to apply our extensive knowledge to support the emerging area of new CANDU reactor builds and new SMR reactor builds.  Our expertise includes Nuclear Steam Plant (NSP) engineering, Balance of Plant (BOP) engineering, Plant Life Management and Extension, Retube Tooling Systems, Inspection and Maintenance Services, Steam Generator Replacement, Plant Equipment Refurbishment and Retrofits.

The Project Director Nuclear Island or Conventional Island will report to the Project Director – New Build, as a key role within an Alliance contract structure. The PD will be responsible for leading Engineering, Procurement and Construction for the Nuclear Island (Reactor, Control, and Radwaste Buildings) or Conventional Island (Turbine, BOP) on a multi-billion-dollar new nuclear power plant construction project.

This role will require leadership of all project team members, including engineering, procurement, project management, construction, and includes interfacing with key external stakeholders. A project director is expected to have significant experience in project delivery and project execution methodology including an understanding of engineering, procurement, construction, contract management and project controls principles. Leading large teams is an equally important skill; developing and building a large team of professionals is a requirement of this role.

A third pillar of this role is the ability to manage complex stakeholder (internal and external) interactions, including government, partners, vendors, and client. Behaviors within an alliance contracting model are key to this role’s success, and the applicant is expected to represent both AtkinsRéalis interests as well as ensuring the overall completion of the project on time and on budget, with special focus on nuclear safety.
