Rail Maintenance Supervisor – Track Work
The Canada Line is one of the largest Public-Private Partnership (P3) in Canadian history. It is an automated rail-based rapid transit service connecting Downtown Vancouver with central Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport — linking growing residential, business, health care, educational and other centres in the region — and adding transit capacity equivalent to 10 major road lanes. The Canada Line connects with existing rapid transit lines at Waterfront Station and major east-west transit services, creating an enhanced transit network to serve the region.
The Rail Maintenance Supervisor – Track Work supervises the activities of technicians and contractors for maintenance, repairs and new installations of railway systems. The Supervisor also schedules and co-ordinates special projects, ensuring that priority is given to failures affecting service, and checks that work carried out is done according to specification, quality and safety requirements. This position will be focused on providing leadership to technicians and may work nights as required.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assist Engineers in the development of policies, procedures and programs, both routine and emergency, relating to scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, repair and new installations of railway systems.
- Supervise service contractors’ and technicians’ work and ensure compliance with corporate, departmental, safety and other regulating policies, codes and standards.
- Ensure all necessary tools and materials for scheduled maintenance requirements and special projects are available in stock.
- Prepare work schedules and assign special projects and repairs by priority on a daily basis.
- Respond to emergency incidents day or night and prepare reports.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, safe work practices and coordinate monthly departmental safety meetings.
- Preparation of the departmental budget and business plan, and lead or participate in various committees and meetings.
- Participates in the recruitment process by reviewing applications and resumes, short-listing candidates, and interviewing candidates.
- Manages performance and competency levels.
- Participates in incident investigations and implements necessary corrective action.
- Develops and delivers various on the job and classroom training sessions.
- Performs relief duties for manager as required.
- Effective at prioritization of large workloads to complete planned scheduled work and respond to corrective maintenance requirements
- Able to respond to callouts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science degree in a related field, or engineer classification from an accredited university, or 8+ years’ experience maintaining railway equipment or equivalent experience.
- Must be Qualified Track Inspector
- High School Graduation (Grade 12) minimum required
- Red Seal certification an asset
- 5+ years Supervisory experience in a rail environment required
