Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Engineer - Fuel Channel Inspection in Digital Innovation team

Objective: Enhance efficiency and accuracy of fuel channel inspections by automating data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Location – Mississauga, ON

Your role within the team:

Process Understanding:

Gain a deep understanding of the current manual inspection process for calandria tubes (CT) and pressure tubes (PT).

Collaborate with inspection teams to identify pain points, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.

Data Collection Automation:

Develop RPA bots to automate data collection during inspections:

  • Extract measurements (e.g., tube dimensions, gap distances) from sensors and gauges.
  • Capture visual data (images, videos) for defect detection.
  • Integrate with existing inspection tools (e.g., Eddy Current Testing, Ultrasonic Testing).
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and real-time synchronization.

Efficient Data Processing:

Implement data preprocessing pipelines:

  • Clean and normalize raw data.
  • Handle missing values and outliers.
  • Convert data into structured formats (e.g., CSV, databases).
  • Explore compression techniques to reduce data storage requirements (if necessary).

Predictive Modelling:

Leverage data science skills to build predictive models:

  • Predict tube degradation based on historical data.
  • Estimate remaining useful life (RUL) of tubes.
  • Identify early signs of defects or anomalies.
  • Collaborate with domain experts to validate model accuracy.

Process Optimization:

Propose innovative ways to streamline inspections:

  • Optimize inspection schedules.
  • Minimize downtime during outages.
  • Reduce manual intervention.
  • Aim for a 5x reduction in inspection time while maintaining safety standards.

Reporting and Visualization:

  • Create automated reports summarizing inspection results.
  • Visualize trends, anomalies, and critical findings.
  • Provide actionable insights to maintenance teams.

The ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • Proficiency in RPA tools (e.g., UiPath, Automation Anywhere).
  • Strong programming skills (Python, R, or similar).
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modelling.
  • Familiarity with nuclear safety protocols and CANDU or Heavy Water reactor systems (preferred).
