Role Summary

Reporting directly to the AMEA Vice President of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), the Senior HSEQ Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting business operations across Australia. Based in Sydney, this strategic position extends coverage to our Brisbane and Melbourne offices, with potential for further expansion as the company experiences growth.

As AtkinsRéalis aims for rapid expansion in the Australian market over the next few years, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility and innovation. The ability to effectively scale and adapt the HSEQ strategy to align with the company’s projected growth is essential.

The Senior HSEQ Manager at AtkinsRéalis will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive health, safety, environmental & quality (HSEQ) strategies to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and promote a proactive safety culture throughout the company’s operations in Australia.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Responsible for supporting project leaders and senior management in understanding and implementing HSEQ requirements comprehensively.
• Promote a culture of fairness and accountability in HSEQ practices across the organization.
• Assist in the preparation of HSEQ sections for bids and proposals and present AtkinsRéalis HSEQ strategies to potential clients when required.
• Serve as an ambassador for the company’s values, promoting best practices in HSEQ and integrate core HSEQ values through various forums and events, enhancing the company's HSEQ profile.
• Assist in the implementation and oversight of the Global HSE Management System (GHSEMS), BlueSky and BlueBook standards, as well as manage incident reporting and investigation processes
• Communicate with the Practice teams and technical lead to drive continuous improvement and maintain strong relationships with regulatory authorities, municipalities, and other official bodies, positioning AtkinsRéalis as a leader in HSEQ.
• Support the assurance and improvement programs in place internally at AtkinsRéalis
• Identify risks or trends from various assurance activities undertaken at a bid, project, divisional level
• Engage with the Central Quality function to embed Engineering Services Requirements
• Spearhead sustainability initiatives focusing on environmental management, including waste reduction, energy efficiency, and resource conservation.
• Implement and manage workplace health and wellness programs that address physical, mental health, and general employee wellbeing.

Desired Skills, Experience and Capabilities

• Strong leadership experience in the development and implementation of corporate HSEQ policies, processes and initiatives
• Proficiency in state safety laws, codes of practice, guidance notes and safe working practices relevant to the work activities.
• Ability to write, develop, and present safety programs and reporting to high level stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency response strategies and plans, including regular drills and training for staff to ensure preparedness.
• Ability to build and sustain relationships with client project and HSEQ management teams to ensure collaborative success
• Knowledge around and ability to ensure ongoing accreditation to ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
• Stay up to date with and lead the adoption and integration of cutting-edge HSEQ technologies for monitoring, data analysis, and reporting to enhance safety outcomes.
