Responsibilities:

The work is varied and may include some or all of the responsibilities mentioned below:

  • Design and development of mechanical handling systems and tools.
  • Design and development of nuclear waste management facilities and handling tools for nuclear waste canisters.
  • Design and engineering for coolant channel replacement and calandria retubing, and development of tools for such activities.
  • Design of tooling jigs, machining/welding fixtures, work platforms, protective/cleanliness covers, gauges, various hand tools.
  • Design of lifting & handling tools (strongbacks, rolling rings, belly bands, positioning fixtures etc.), crane operator lift sketches, and transportation drawings (railcar and trailer) for moving high value components.
  • Preparation of conceptual and detail design packages, including optioneering, design development, and concept evaluation.
  • Design and implementation of engineering changes/system upgrades in brown field projects.
  • Equipment selection (including material selection) and procurement including technical bid evaluation, vendor drawing review.
  • Production of manufacturing packages, coordination with manufacturer/contractor, review of vendor drawings/documents.
  • Witness the pre-commissioning/commissioning activities by the contractor/vendor and produce/review all relevant documentation.
  • Preparation of equipment specifications, plant maintenance schedules, access, lifting and maintenance strategies, technical risk assessments, and commissioning strategies, cost and programme estimations.
  • Preparation of mechanical engineering designs for new installations and for replacement and upgrade of systems and components.
  • Preparation of design specifications to define and determine performance criteria for component upgrades.
  • Strategy development for in-service inspection and testing.
  • Walk-downs to assess system configuration and material condition.
  • Production of 2D and 3D CAD drawings/models and bill of materials.
  • Development of project technical proposals, scopes, schedules and budget estimates for mechanical discipline work. 
  • Operational improvement and life extension studies.

Requirements:

  • Suitable degree in Mechanical engineering with 6 to 20 years of experience in a highly regulated industrial environment preferred.
  • Experience in nuclear refurbishment activities such as coolant channel replacement, calandria retubing or nuclear waste handling.
  • Experience in mechanical design and assessment in either greenfield or brownfield projects.
  • Experience in design of tooling jigs, machining/welding fixtures, work platforms, protective/cleanliness covers, gauges, various hand tools, and other special tools used to handle nuclear waste.
  • Experience in design of lifting and handling tools (strongbacks, rolling rings, belly bands, positioning fixtures etc.), crane operator lift sketches, and transportation drawings (railcar and trailer) for moving high value components.
  • Design and development of metal cutting tools/special mechanical handling and gripping tools.
  • Experience in handling brownfield packages, in particular power plant systems and utilities.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of design projects, or relevant knowledge of process plant operations is desirable.
  • Knowledge of design and fabrication drawings and processes.
  • Ability to carry out detailed design, analysis and review others work.
  • Experience of providing strong technical advice and guidance on mechanical engineering design to the client.
  • Strong delivery culture, maintaining strict timelines is must.
  • Proven computer aptitude, and expertise in MS office. 
  • Familiar with international design codes and standards (such as: RCC-M, ASME, PSSR 2000, BS EN 13480 and BS EN13445) and recommended practices pertaining to mechanical design, fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, quality assurance and quality control.
  • Exposure to field installation, commissioning and testing of design changes.
  • Experience in supporting construction and commissioning phases.
  • Ability to understand and define client’s requirements, plan and schedule deliverables, timelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills with a proven ability to write accurate, detailed and concise technical reports (e.g. design substantiations, basis of analysis, safety case support references).
  • Well-versed knowledge of Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing related to Nuclear, Oil and Gas, or any Mechanical equipment-based industries.
  • Experience in production of drawings for equipment layout, mechanical handling and cutting tools, and equipment drawings.
  • Experience in manufacturing, inspection involving tooling, NDE, I&C, Welding, Robotics, Inspection, Welding Engineering, Knowledge of manufacturing non-conformance is preferable.
  • Participates in client design reviews.
  • Experience or exposure to project management principles desirable.
  • Strong delivery culture, ability to multi-task, resource management, delegate tasks, develop and deliver cost/time-effective solutions.
  • Flexible to relocate to AtkinsRéalis India Office Locations (Bangalore/Gurgaon/Mumbai) flexible in travelling to AtkinsRéalis and client’s office locations around the world, if required.
