Atkins Transportation Division covers all aspects of multidisciplinary design and management from inception to options appraisal through to detailed scheme design and delivery support.

We are seeking experienced Sr. Risk Analysts / Risk Managers, with extensive project experience, ideally on railway and highways infrastructure projects. 

These roles will be based in Birmingham, Manchester or Bristol and surrounding area offices, with occasional visits to other locations in line with business requirements.

The successful applicant will manage the risk management discipline for a range of projects, providing comprehensive guidance, management, and day to day risk management support to Atkins project staff, and to the clients.

This is a challenging role to drive Risk and Opportunity to best practice for key projects within Transportation, to ensure consistent quality of support is achieved and is in keeping with both Atkins internal Governance procedures and those of the clients.

The Risk Manager, will report into the Project Controls Business unit to the Senior Risk Manager, with accountability to the Project Managers on assigned projects. There may be opportunity to support and contribute to other Rail or Highways bids as well as taking a role in driving forward Value Management initiatives for assigned projects.

Requirements
• Experienced as a Risk Manager on medium to large infrastructure projects, ideally within Rail or Highways
• Experienced in providing Risk and Opportunity Management training or coaching
• Experience of Schedule Risk analysis, i.e. Oracle Primavera Risk Analysis
• Expert user of Risk Management software, i.e. Active Risk Manager (ARM) or other databases, @Risk or Oracle Crystal Ball
• Experience of working with company Enterprise systems
• Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels
• Contractual awareness
• Good Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Member of the Institute of Risk Managers & APM desirable
• Knowledge or experience of Value Management techniques desirable


Responsibilities
• Leads the Risk Management function for Projects for the effective identification and management of project risks
• Facilitates Risk and Opportunity identification and review workshops
• Ensures that Project Risk Registers are in place on all assigned projects and are being correctly managed
• Update the Enterprise risk management system with risk register results
• Works positively with the project teams to ensure mitigation strategies are developed and managed
• Provides Risk Management coaching and guidance to Project staff
• Builds relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Contributes to Project Dashboards to communicate the status of Risk and Opportunity Management in a clear, concise and timely manner
• Works with the Project teams and Technical Leads to identify potential opportunities to add value
• Work positively with risk colleagues in Atkins, sharing best practice, tools, techniques etc
• Facilitates value management workshops and supports VM/VE analyses and reporting, adopting best practice, tools, techniques etc

Key accountabilities
• Enforcing the Risk Management processes, procedures and systems
• Writing the Risk Management Plan for each project and regular updates
• Ensuring that the relevant project staff understands their Risk & Opportunity responsibilities
• Managing and auditing the Project Risk registers
• Ensuring that the risk data reported is timely and consistent across projects
• Ensuring that the top 5 Risks and Opportunities are agreed with the project manager each month and clearly identified in the risk register and enterprise systems for corporate reporting
• Continuous improvement to the risk management process and systems
• Identifying risk maturity shortfalls within the project teams and undertakes actions to mitigate.
• Identify the risks that require escalation
• Works with Transportation Project Controls to ensure top risks are communicated to senior management
• Writing the Value Management Plan for projects as required, and regular updates

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
