Structural Engineer
 
If you are an enthusiastic and driven Structural Engineer, and thrive on working on some of the most exciting and varied projects in the Oil and Gas sector, then this could be the role for you.
 
The Role
 
Joining our Oil & Gas Engineering & Consulting business in Aberdeen, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of offshore projects, including front end design, consultancy studies, integrity management of topsides/subsea structures, brownfield modifications and decommissioning. The role includes providing day to day operational support to our client’s offshore facilities, covering live structural support and offshore enactment across our entire range of clients as a part of our highly experienced Structures team.
 
Working with key North Sea clients, you’ll be responsible for the delivery of structural projects for all types of offshore structures including fixed, floating and subsea structures. You will be working as part of an integrated team covering client interaction and delivery from multiple locations. 
 
You will be working on all aspects of our operational integrity management service delivery, including inspection planning, anomaly management, risk assessment, developing structural integrity strategies and inspection schemes. This is a varied role and will include everything from hand calculations, to linear and non-linear structural analysis work. The role includes working with others to identify and develop new technical methodologies as well as communicating and maintaining client relationships, with a view to winning more work and contributing to successful proposals and tenders as applicable.
 
You will be able to manage your own cost and time targets to deliver an efficient, high calibre engineering service and preparation of associated clear, concise, high quality reports. You will be working in a team of engineers to execute projects with pool resources from other teams and external consultants where appropriate, and will have the opportunity to develop your capabilities in line with the requirements of the Atkins career paths.


The Person
 
Building and developing relationships is a key part of this role. In addition to building relationships with our clients, you will be able to work with other teams to develop cross-discipline capabilities, and have a co-operative and helpful attitude to colleagues and clients. You will have the potential and desire to progress to Senior Engineer status and beyond. In addition to having the ability to cope with rapidly challenging problems and bringing a flexible approach to adapt to individual situations, other key requirements include:
 
• Proven success in delivering structural projects against external and internal time, cost and quality objectives. Experience of applying appropriate quality assurance and reporting
• An understanding of the fundamentals of structural engineering, structural integrity management and of relevant offshore codes and standards
• Experience of offshore structural analysis of jackets, floating and subsea systems – particularly using SESAM software – is preferred
• Technical understanding of environmental wave loading and/or vessel motions – is preferred 
• Experience of decommissioning studies is considered advantageous
• Linear and non-linear FEA experience in ABAQUS and USFOS and other comparable software packages is preferred
• Engineering degree (honours or equivalent) in civil, mechanical, structural naval architecture or similar engineering discipline
• Working towards Chartered status is considered advantageous
• Self-motivated, positive, enthusiastic, reliable, consistent and mature approach to work – appropriate to delivering growth in the face of challenging market conditions
• Willingness to develop a wide range of skills and flexibility to work on a variety of projects.

Within the oil and gas area, our services are focused on upstream operations engineering i.e. maintain safe and efficient operations for operators, and offshore engineering encompassing fixed, floating and subsea facilities. Additionally, we operate selectively in the onshore mid-stream and downstream markets.
