Our Practice provides support to the UK’s largest infrastructure projects, as well as a number of national frameworks, servicing a range of complex and challenging brownfield sites.  Our North East team, located in offices in Leeds, Stockton and Newcastle, has considerable experience providing the investigation, assessment, remediation and redevelopment of brownfield land and sustainable soils re-use, as well as servicing internal teams for road, rail and other infrastructure projects.

Due to expanding project workload and client base we are looking for a motivated Assistant Environmental Consultant / Scientist/ Engineer to join our growing team in primarily in Teesside, but would consider locations in Yorkshire and Northeast if willing to travel regularly.  You will be a highly motivated individual with at least 1 years-experience in the field of contaminated land investigation, reclamation and remediation, and be capable of delivering the high standard of geo-environmental consultancy services for which AtkinsRéalis is renowned.  The role will include a significant requirement for site-based works so a driver’s licence is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Completion / checking works including Phase 1 Desk Studies, material management plans, verification reports, permit applications.
  • Supervising remediation / earthworks including liaising with Contractors, in accordance with environmental permit and material management plan.
  • Digital data management including using tools such as PowerBI, GIS and Openground to collate and interpret verification data.
  • Designing and organising site works including originating specification and bills of quantities, health and safety documentation, supervision of contractors, monitoring and sampling.
  • Data management and development of conceptual site models and carrying out qualitative and semi-quantitative risk assessments for human health, controlled waters and property receptors. Factual and interpretative reporting.
  • Developing own competence and maintain CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on own training and development needs.
  • Management of own work including supporting senior management to ensure projects are to delivered on-time, on budget and to quality and client expectations.
  • Willingness to be based at a client office or site, with significant time spent outdoors. 

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. geology, geotechnics, hydrogeology, chemistry, environmental science).
  • Demonstratable understanding of land contamination/brownfield land issues including understanding of relevant codes of practice and industry standards.
  • Ability and willingness to regularly travel throughout the North East (depending on home location).
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Experience preferable in contamination/brownfield land site based work i.e. site investigations; earthworks etc and report writing.
