Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Raleigh, NC team as an Assistant IMAP (Incident Management Assistant Patrol) Trainer.
 
Major Functions:
 
This position supports the Incident Management Assistance Patrol (IMAP) training, certification and coaching Under the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The Assistant IMAP Trainer Supports develops and maintains training procedures, certification procedures, SOPs, certification management, event planning and logistics in addition to other related client services (employee support). Furthermore, this position requires thorough domain knowledge of all IMAP functions including the ability to perform all IMAP duties as needed. The Assistant Trainer works with IMAP Master Trainer to help drive process improvements, standards, methods tools and competencies across the Regions with IMAP. 
 
  • Conducts training classes for IMAP staff as appropriate.
  • Supports all review, certification and re-certification procedures and provides feedback as directed.
  • Supports in the field training, coaching and mentoring for IMAP staff as directed.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of all training procedures for IMAP.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of all certification procedures for IMAP.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of all standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • As directed, communicates with client managers, project manager, TIM team and IMAP supervisors and/or Incident Management Engineers to provide status updates, ascertain needs and provide solution to any issues. 
  • Actively reviews operational activity for accuracy and appropriateness, provides guidance and feedback to staff as appropriate. Works within IMAP regions to determine individual training needs.
  • Assists in maintenance of all IMAP training and certification records.
  • Coordinates with other agencies as appropriate. (i.e., SHP for scheduling of track training)
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge and active capability to perform all IMAP operational tasks and use all tools as required. May fill in for Master IMAP Trainer as appropriate when staffing levels are low or during extreme weather or special events.
  • Performs special assignments as it relates to IMAP operations and incident management.
  • Collaborates with the STOC Trainer to look at new approaches in adult learning, with an emphasis on increasing retention while enhancing their career.
  • Provides ongoing support and implementation of the IMAP program.
  • Performs other such duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

Work involves somewhat varied tasks requiring understanding of incident management protocols and procedures and client expectations
DECISION-MAKING: (Supervision received; independent judgment or initiative; consequence of error):
Generally works under limited supervision but must have the ability to generate time sensitive response. Seeks guidance from supervisor as necessary

WORK DIRECTION GIVEN TO OTHERS: (Titles and number of personnel; type of direction given):
Provides training-related guidance and work direction.

INTERNAL CONTACTS: (Required interaction/relationship with others within the organization):
Frequent contact with other supervisors, project manager, operators/dispatchers and NC DOT Staff at the State and Regional level.

EXTERNAL CONTACTS: (Required interaction/relationship with others outside the organization):
Regular and frequent contact with client project manager, external partners and first
responders.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
 
  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and six (6) years relevant experience is required, including three (3) years of direct training experience and/or program implementation in a corporate setting.
  • Must be proficient with computer skills and audiovisual equipment.
 
SPECIAL SKILLS: 
 
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Must have excellent presentation skills and ability to use Microsoft Power Point. Must have good command of the English language. Must have ability to perform in a professional, courteous manner and remain friendly while under pressure. Must have an aptitude for geography and maps. Knowledge of a Learning Management System and other software such as captivate, articulate, flash, Microsoft publisher is preferred.
  • Must have facilitation, time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Working knowledge of incident scene management and response protocols.
  • Must be able to professionally interact with first responders and other entities that routinely respond to the scene of an incident to include law enforcement, fire/rescue, EMS, wrecker operators, NCDOT, utility service contractors, news media, etc.

  • None required.

  • Must be able to work nights, holidays and/or weekends in the event of emergency operations activation. The ability to work flexible hours is required. Frequent travel is required. The ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
