Electrical Engineer

Atkins is a leader in rail engineering and systems design, providing expertise to clients from our experience and in-depth knowledge of the rail and engineering domains. Our rail services are delivered via a multidisciplinary workforce located in the UK and around the world.

The electrical team undertakes all aspects of LV electrical distribution associated with the railway infrastructure including building services for stations and depots and trackside schemes including signalling power supplies, points heating and level crossings.

We are currently recruiting for an Electrical (E&P) Engineer to become a key member of the team producing design deliverables including technical specifications, CAD drawings (with a CAD operator) and associated cable calculations under the guidance and direct supervision of Principal Engineers within the electrical team. Other roles will include site survey and liaison with other disciplines.
This is an ideal role for a graduate with 3+ years’ experience, or an apprentice with 5+ years’ experience.

Responsibilities

• Integrate with and support a team of Design Engineers who undertake electrical design work within a Rail environment.
• Undertake site surveys and the preparation of design specifications to company and Network Rail standards using Microstation, Amtech Pro Design, ETAP and Microsoft Office packages
• Prepare design deliverable packages for professional submission including drawings and other items.

Requirements

• HNC/HND/ Electrical/Electronic Engineering Degree or equivalent appropriate industry experience;
• Demonstrate knowledge and experience of the use of BS7671;
• Appropriate experience working in CAD Design in a building services or infrastructure environment would be an advantage, particularly the use of Microstation V8 or later versions;
• Working knowledge of Amtech ProDesign package and Dialux lighting design package would be an advantage;
• Previous rail industry experience and appropriate qualifications such as PTS would be an advantage;
• The successful applicant will be a competent user of IT tools in particular Word, Excel and Outlook
