Engineering Bid Manager

We are currently seeking an Engineering Bid Manager to join the Decommissioning & Waste Services (DWS) market within our Nuclear & Power business. Ideally based in Northwest England although other locations UK wide can be considered.

Reporting to the Head of Engineering you will oversee, direct and co-ordinate our Engineering resources to create and deliver professional, compliant and competitive proposals to win work. The successful candidate will have a strong engineering background and will support the Head of Engineering and Engineering Capability Leads in resource planning, recruitment and capability development plans for our teams to ensure we can deliver the work that is won.

You will work in our market which is predominantly focused on delivering engineering and waste management projects for clients within the Nuclear Decommissioning sector, with some projects focused on other stages of the Nuclear lifecycle. We have strong capabilities in mechanical handling, machinery design & control, structural design & analysis, and low voltage power distribution. We tackle projects that have varied engineering, nuclear and safety challenges, which requires proactive and mixed-skill delivery teams working collaboratively to deliver a high quality solution.

The Role:

Candidates should be able to act as Bid Manager to oversee the creation and delivery of high quality, compelling, competitive, and compliant proposal submissions in accordance with our Sector Management System and deliver this aligned to internal gated processes and procedures.

Using your technical experience you’ll be able to identify and manage technical risk at bid stage. This includes multi-discipline design and substantiation tasks and projects for new facilities, equipment, machinery and infrastructure, adaption and refurbishment of existing facilities and infrastructure, as well as condition assessment and substantiation of structures, systems, machines and components.

You will be able to identify a bid winning engineering delivery strategy which leverages our capability, technology & products to yield innovative solutions, and capture learning and continual improvements in supporting documentation, such as case studies and capability statements.

You will be able to negotiate with internal stakeholders and the supply chain to ensure that projects start with right Engineering resources available, this will include identifying team and individual competency requirements and undertaking assessments of proposed teams to identify appropriate mitigation for short comings.

Develop a common approach to our bid creation whilst maintaining and improving supporting documentation such as case studies and capability statements.

The Individual:

• You will have a background in Project Engineering Management, having led engineering projects integrating multi-disciplinary delivery including mechanical, civil, electrical and control & instrumentation. You should have experience and a level of expertise in nuclear engineering design and substantiation with a good knowledge of UK and International design codes and industry regulations.
• You should have the ability, want and drive to sell AtkinsRéalis as a prominent partner and supplier through our reputation for technical excellence and quality of delivery in engineering disciplines relevant to the market, manage and guide varied bid teams in our market and collaborate with colleagues across the wider business, and be keen to utilise our Global Technology Centre and supply chain to offer competitive advantage and quality.
• Ability to manage and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities. Self-motivated and able to work both freely as well as within a larger multi-discipline team.
• Excellent team player, able to collaborate effectively with market colleagues, other wider-business colleagues and the management team.
