Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Henderson, NV Water Resource Group as an Entry Level 
Water Resources/Drainage Engineer.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Under supervision, performs routine engineering work while developing professional proficiency. On design assignments, works to learn how to clearly convey the design intent through engineering drawings and specifications. On assignments involving investigations and planning, works to learn the fundamentals of engineering processes and to apply them successfully to operating systems. On assignments involving construction activities, works to develop an understanding of construction methods and the translation of engineering drawings and specifications into the constructed product. Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.


JOB DUTIES
  • Performs roadway drainage design as part of a team.
  • Performs hydrologic/hydraulic modeling for floodplain mapping.
  • Prepares final plans and design reports and submits them for review.
  • May work with external clients at progress meetings and throughout project to meet client needs, project schedules, goals and deadlines.
  • May coordinate work with other engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services staff.
  • May manage or assist in the management of projects.
  • May perform other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering (preferably with a focus in Water Resources).  Minimal experience is required of incumbents with a Bachelor's Degree in a branch of Engineering directly related to hiring discipline; no experience required with a Master's degree.


SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Good technical writing, computer, communication and organization/planning skills are required.
  • Experience and familiarity with the following programs and methodology is preferred but not necessary: Microstation, Geopak drainage, HEC-RAS, SCS methodology, and the Rational Formula.
  • Experience with the following programs is preferred but not necessary: GIS, HEC-HMS, AutoCAD, SWMM products, FlowMaster, and 2D modeling software. 


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS
  • EI or EIT desired.

Ability to process paper/electronic documents and utilize computer equipment; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to visit project sites if necessary. Job also requires ability to plan, prioritize and review project plans and documents, evaluate alternatives, and devise appropriate solutions.
