Financial Accountant

This position is part of the SSF’s Accounting team. The role encompasses a range of financial and management accounting activities. These include general ledger management, capital expenditure accounting/control, inter-company reconciliations and preparation of management accounts, budgets and forecasts for the SSF.

Responsible to: Head of Accounting & Financial Controller

Key Relationships

• Other members of the SSF’s Accounting department.
• Other departments within the SSF.
• The broader Atkins finance community.
• Operational staff throughout the Group.

This role will be a four month FTC

Job Description

• Preparation/ review of the SSF’s monthly management accounts, annual budgets and quarterly forecasts.
• Management of the SSF’s balance sheet, including review of general ledger reconciliations.
• Management of the UK CAPEX process, including review of monthly reports and analyses.
• Management of the inter-company reconciliation and monthly intercompany auto-trading processes (over 75 entities).
• Project work, including the redesign of the intercompany reconciliation process.

Requirements
Essential

• An accounting qualification (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent) plus some post qualification experience.
• Intermediate level Microsoft Excel skills, including use of pivot tables, lookups and other functions.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
• Effective communication skills; able to engage with and influence staff at all levels.

• Well organised – skilled in prioritising own workload and that of the team.
• Able to mix effective team management with ‘hands on’ involvement and ad hoc projects.

Desirable

• A working knowledge of JD Edwards and HFM would be an advantage.
• Some experience of managing people, including coaching and developing staff.
• Previously experience of implementing a new process would be an advantage.
