We are seeking a Guideway Service Person to join our Mainteance Team and the successful candidate is responsible for supporting and undertaking Guideway maintenance activities that are primarily completed during the nightly system closure.  Guideway Servicepersons work as part of the Maintenance team in ensuring that the guideway, including trackwork, special trackwork, structures, power rail, drainage systems, and other related structures, are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.  They may also act in a supplementary and support role with other Wayside groups in the maintenance of Power Supply and Distribution systems, Electronic, Vehicle, and/or Building Services systems. 

Location: Richmond, BC (Onsite Work)

Safety Critical Position:

This position is safety critical.  Fitness for duty is a requirement of the position.

Your role within the team:

To perform this role successfully, the incumbent will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Assist with the performance of preventative and corrective track maintenance tasks.
  • Completes guideway cleaning activities.
  • Obtain Permission-to-Enter (PTEs), Work Zones, and Proceed clearances and escort various personnel and contractors into ATC territory and restricted areas.
  • Assist with operations for rail-borne equipment.
  • Operate company vehicles, track maintenance machinery and various other tools and equipment.
  • Perform emergency related tasks, such as responding to abnormal guideway situations, as required.
  • Assist with the inspection and maintenance of other systems.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • Expected compensation for this unionized role is of $35.33 hourly at Training Rate and $41.57 hourly at Qualified Rate after training. Base salaries are determined according to the compensation range of the Collective Agreement.

The ideal candidate:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 Unrestricted BC driver’s license.
  • Trades qualification or training an asset.
  • 3 years maintenance or construction experience in an industrial environment.
  • Railway track maintenance experience an asset.
  • A combination of education and experience may also be considered

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to work night shifts.
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor night environment year round.
  • Must be capable of performing heavy work.
  • Must be able to be assessed and qualify in all PROTRANS BC rules and procedures.
