As a Principal Engineer Highways in our Transportation team, you'll be pivotal in implementing ideas that shape the future of how we move. We work on a large variety of significant and challenging projects across the UK and Ireland. You'll feel a great sense of pride in shaping high-quality civil and structural designs across new build, renewal, maintenance, and assessment works. Collaborate with national and international design teams, using your insight and supervision to generate positive, sustainable impacts on society and the environment.

We offer flexible working where you will typically be working from our Belfast office 2-3 days a week and with intermittent travelling to the Dublin office as per the need of the business.

Your purpose:

  • Be a recognised Leader within N Ireland, successfully delivering the projects objectives.
  • Be a recognised Operational lead for the Client, providing knowledge, resources and being the first point of contact for escalation for issues and opportunities relating to delivery of the services and widening of scope.
  • Co-ordinate resources, both local core teams and virtual teams, to deliver the Client’s objectives.
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of projects, as Project Director or Project Manager, at all stages of the development life cycle.
  • Be an ambassador for driving continuous improvement and innovation and sharing knowledge and lessons learnt across the strategic highways and local transport markets.
  • Be a role model for staff, and proactively be involved in their mentoring and development.
  • Support the preparation of bids and promoting Atkins’ capabilities in the strategic highways and local transport markets.

  • Experience of building effective networks both internally and external to the organisation.
  • Experience of developing strong and sustainable relationships with Clients.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and supervision skills with proven ability to build and motivate teams working across the practices.
  • Focused on Key Account Management in order to develop strong, long-lasting relationships.
  • A disciplined thinker and logical, numerate, problem solver who has strategic judgement and the capacity to think complex issues through and develop effective solutions in a timely fashion.
  • A resourceful, articulate and clear communicator who can influence others through the use of sound judgement and good sense – a natural team player.

Security clearance:
