Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Atlanta, GA office as a Product Manager in our Digital Engineering Systems Group.

 

Background

  • IS have put in place an operating model for 2020 to revolutionize the way IS (Information Services) is provided to the organisation, moving from a BAU (Business as usual) focus to business value driven delivery.
  • Key concepts include: Moving to digital products, adopting agile across the organisation, putting the business at the center of delivery, leveraging cloud, and focus on supporting bid and delivery.

 

Job Details

  • Digital Engineering Systems is responsible for the delivery, on-going success and continuous improvement of digital products and services that underpin Atkins’ ability to deliver work to our clients. This role will lead on our philosophy to close the gap between Atkins’ business and product development. The role will deliver new products, or enhancements to existing products from conception to launch and then throughout the product life cycle.
  • The role focuses on delivery of Digital Engineering Systems that enable our design teams to work efficiently and productively. This will often involve the configuration of out-of-the-box software products from suppliers such as Autodesk and Bentley. Underlying the technology change will often be the requirement for supporting changes to standard method & procedures – this role will need to understand the implications of the products to be delivered.
  • The role will involve significant coordination across multiple teams.  As well as working with stakeholders from Atkins’ business sectors with a focus in our North American business. Digital Engineering Systems is a global team and management reporting lines are likely to be inter-regional. The successful candidate will need to be a self-starter and able to manage their own workloads and priorities.

 

Key Deliverables/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the successful development, launch and in-life management of tools and products, working within multi-disciplinary delivery teams.  Coordinate this with software development, Technical Services, Compliance, Service Desk & Release Management. Work effectively within and across teams, including 3rd parties, to get things accomplished.
  • A specific focus on the modernization of the Atkins North America (ANA) design delivery through the application of our Digital Design Process which lays out common approaches to Design Delivery. This is a global effort and this role will support implementation in the ANA whilst coordinating with similar efforts in other regions and sectors.
  • Gather, analyse, validate, specify and manage the real needs and priorities of Users and other stakeholders, working closely with Product Owners from the Atkins’ business and with end users to gather product requirements. Validate ideas through incubation and the creation of MVPs. Develop an understanding of the various personas of the user community. Ensure the product delivers best in class User Experience.
  • Create effective, prioritized product descriptions and backlogs to meet user needs, keeping continually up to date with changes to user preferences and behaviors across relevant platforms.  Assess the value proposition of each feature and the “pain points” it addresses. Present product requirements and features to external audiences and internal audiences. Review, comment, follow-up, and target bug and enhancement requests.
  • Work cooperatively with product specialists and software development teams ensuring that requirements are understood at sufficient level of detail to be actionable. Understand the implications of technical decisions and trade-offs and be able to explain these to Product Owners and Users. 
  • Deliver subject-matter-expertise to business partners to support bids or service delivery.
  • Evaluate off-the-shelf products as part or all of a product solution and ensuring that a regular review is made of build vs buy decisions and where needed, build and maintain relationships with the 3rd party software providers and offshore development teams to establish positive, effective working relationships and establish supply chain efficiencies.
  • Manage the product budget and where necessary develop business cases for enhancements or changes.
  • Liaise with Business Change Leads to ensure Release Readiness in target business sectors.


Experience Required


Essential

  • An Architect, Engineer or Designer by training in any sector relevant to our business, e.g. Energy or AEC.
  • Familiar as a user or developer with toolsets available from suppliers such as Autodesk or Bentley.
  • Experience of software product management.
  • Able to demonstrate how to put the customer first with strong customer communications and the ability to validate product ideas.
  • Proactive and able to identify and deliver improvements and new products to meet the demands of the business and bring cost and process efficiencies.
  • An entrepreneurial and resourceful drive with “can do” attitude to getting things done.
  • Experience of working with software vendors and suppliers and with offshore development teams.
  • An ability to break down complex problems into steps that drive product development at speed. 
  • Will have the interpersonal skills needed to negotiate priorities and resolve conflicts among project stakeholders.
  • Good communication skills – verbal and written – are a must. 

 

Desirable

  • A hands-on software development experience would be a significant benefit.
