Project Technical Manager – Renewable Energy

In Sub-Saharan Africa, SNC-Lavalin has a proven track record of delivering projects across all four of our sectors of operation including oil and gas, mining and metallurgy, infrastructure, power and renewable energy. We have long-standing relationships with leading national and international companies across the region including Sasol, Chevron, Eskom, Transnet, PetroSA, Engen and various Renewable Energy clients. 

Requirement is for a Project Technical Manager with extensive proven renewable energy plant construction experience to support estimating, detail design and project execution. It will be a core requirement to be able to develop contracting and procurement strategies, specifications for equipment and materials, plant layout drawings, and details for Civils, Mechanical, Electrical and O&M buildings.

Education & Skills:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in construction, preferably with both Client and Contractor.
  • Experience working on renewable energy projects essential.
  • Proven knowledge of civil, mechanical, electrical, O&M buildings and substations related to renewable energy facilities.
  • Must have a completed diploma / degree in engineering – preferably Electrical.
  • Must have a solid understanding of FIDIC suite of contracts and bespoke Sub-EPC contract forms.
  • Must have a solid understanding of EPC and Sub-EPC contract execution and associated risks.
  • Computer literate in MS Office Suite
  • Proficient in AutoCAD or similar.
  • Knowledge of SANS 1200, 10142 and other standards related to renewable energy facilities.
  • Must have on-site construction experience.

  • Ability to multitask and adaptability to change
  • Possess strong leadership skills with the ability to lead by example
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deal with periods of high work volume
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written, including the writing of technical reports, procedures and method statements.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate incoming tender documents to identify and develop procurement and subcontract packages.
  • Define pricing and subcontracting strategy for most effective project execution
  • Understand clients’ technical requirements and ensure that they are being met.
  • Coordinate design aspects with engineers and consultants.
  • Drive design and report progress to Project manager.
  • Evaluate quotations and tenders to ensure technical compliance before orders or contracts are placed.
  • Provide technical support to Procurement department.
  • Handle all technical queries arising throughout the project for all disciplines.
  • Work closely together with Quality department to ensure client expectations are being met.
  • Provide technical guidance to construction management team and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities, including developing of commissioning program and procedures.
  • Drafting and collating of information for Plant O&M Manuals.
  • Coordinate grid code compliance and performance testing.

Location: Midrand and project based when required. Candidate must be willing to spend extended periods on project sites.

Duration: LDC with the view of converting to Permanent dependent on performance
