Atkins Transportation Division covers all aspects of multidisciplinary design and management from inception to options appraisal through to detailed scheme design and delivery support. Atkins is one of the UK’s leading multi-disciplinary consultancies engaged in numerous high profile projects for Clients in both the Public and Private Sector.

Atkins’ Transportation Consultancy Practice comprises of over 900 staff delivering planning, technical and advisory consultancy services to a wide-ranging client base in the UK and overseas. We are part of a larger Transportation business of 3,750 talented professionals covering highway, rail and local transport sectors in the UK & Europe.

Join our Cambridge Transport Planning team and your transport planning creativity and technical skills will transform projects. Collaborating with specialists from across our business as part of multidisciplinary teams, you’ll work on a wide variety of projects from scheme development through to scheme construction. If you can present your ideas and build strong customer relationships – you’ll enjoy influencing mixed use developments, housing communities, airports, schools, sustainable transport, public realm schemes and more.

We are looking for a talented Senior/Principal Transport Planner to join our successful and growing team of 25 transport planners based in Cambridge. Our transport planning services include policy and strategy development; case making for a wide range of transport investments, undertaking demand, market and economic analysis and forecasting; development planning; transport modelling and scheme feasibility and design.

Recent and current projects include:
• Cambridge Biomedical Campus – transport strategy development to meet future needs;
• A14 Detailed Design – supporting the design team and public engagement;
• Port of Tilbury port expansion – assessment of access arrangements for the expanded port;
• Hardwick Green – a 1,100 residential development in Kings Lynn;
• Transport modelling studies for Cambridgeshire County Council;
• National Transport Model – development of a key modelling tool for the DfT;
• Connected Autonomous Vehicles and their impact on traffic flow; and
• Wide range of transport studies, development planning and modelling projects for local clients including private developers.


Responsibilities
Depending on the level of experience, responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to:
• Taking responsibility in delivering a diverse range of projects;
• Supporting our transport planning leads in actively engaging with our clients in relation to wider transport planning commissions;
• Involvement in managing the delivery of technical work and the financial / commercial management of projects;
• Leading or assisting with method statements and bidding opportunities;
• Producing documentation of the work undertaken and presenting findings to internal and external audiences; and
• Adoption of best practice and adherence to the Atkins quality processes in technical delivery on projects.

Requirements
We welcome applications from highly motivated and skilled individuals who demonstrate some of the following:
• A passion for transport planning;
• Good written and interpersonal communication skills to engage effectively with clients and teams across Atkins;
• A problem solver with analytical experience and relevant knowledge of and skills in relevant technical techniques, tools and guidance;
• Development Planning and Development Control experience;
• Awareness or proficiency in applying modelling/analysis tools such as SATURN, TUBA, VISSIM, S-Paramics, Junctions, LinSig and GIS;
• Strategy making and business case development studies;
• Ability to innovate, keen interest or experience in knowledge sharing;
• Interest or experience in proposal writing and bid coordination;
• Willing to work simultaneously on a number of projects and flexible to work with different teams around our UK offices including co-location in client offices;
• Proven track record and ability to manage projects successfully, delivering technically excellent projects on time and to budget;
• Knowledge of UK transport planning market, financial management, business development and client liaison experience; and
• A drive to help develop and get the optimum performance from our pool of talented graduates.
