Service Lead – Infrastructure & Signalling Certification

The role:

Reporting to the Team Leader for Rail System Certification, this role will involve management, leadership, and delivery of independent verification for signalling and infrastructure projects. The main responsibilities include:

  • Leading the bidding and delivery of assignments for independent verification of signalling and infrastructure projects.
  • Maintaining our relationships with existing clients including both internal and external.
  • Building relationships with potential new clients and developing and enhancing capability in delivery of assurance for infrastructure and signalling systems.
  • Providing robust advice to clients on the approach to compliance with UK rail safety and certification requirements
  • Managing and growing an established team of assurance assignment managers to suit market needs, balancing workload and maximising efficiency and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that the quality of service meets defined targets, is undertaken in accordance with SNC-Lavalin’s procedures, and that all work meets or exceeds the expectations of clients.
  • Training, mentoring and developing individuals to enhance their competency and the range of skills that SNC-Lavalin offers to its clients, and ensuring that team members are well motivated.
  • Representing SNC-Lavalin at industry forums and events and liaising with standards and regulatory bodies in the UK and Europe.
  • Liaising closely with other teams (such as Risk and Safety) to identify and pursue market opportunities in both infrastructure and signalling disciplines.
  • Developing and maintaining marketing materials to showcase the capability of the team.
  • Undertaking staff appraisals and management reviews.

The person:

The successful candidate will either have experience of managing verification projects, or specific experience in signalling or infrastructure disciplines.

Essential:

  • Chartered Engineer with a degree in a relevant discipline and five years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A logical, pragmatic and systematic approach to problem solving.
  • Sufficient knowledge, experience and skills to act as an assignment allocator, checker and approver, such that all assignments are executed by suitably competent staff.
  • Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks and work effectively under pressure in an environment where achieving an appropriate balance between management and assignment activities is essential.
  • Excellent written, presentation and communication/briefing skills.
  • Excellent people management skills.

Desirable:

  • Sound knowledge of the UK legislative process, including verification and safety management.
  • Experience of signalling and/or infrastructure safety assessment/verification processes.
  • Ability to act as a technical assessor in some areas as part of the verification process.
  • Confident to deliver presentations to formal industry forums.
