Requirements:

  • A proven leader in the field of management of operational railway signalling, with comprehensive experience in Railway Signalling Testing/Commissioning of any size and complexity of Projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and staff management skills.
  • Able to develop the testing requirements for a project from inception through the GRIP / PACE stages to a successful commissioning.
  • Able to evaluate conflicting requirements between and within projects and identify the optimum strategy to achieve all the projects’ objectives.
  • Hold a Tester In Charge or Engineering Manager (Testing) IRSE Licence.
  • Hold Major Works Tester in Charge competency (Certificate of Competency).
  • Thorough and detailed knowledge of Network Rail Testing Handbook 30014.
  • Good knowledge of Railway Group NWR company standards requirements.
  • Great personnel management and communication skills.
  • Able to work under pressure during intense periods of commissioning and support mentored staff.
  • Hold a current UK Driving Licence.
  • Willing to work flexibly and efficiently in support of the project.
  • Able to contribute to the management team to provide the development and future direction for the testing group.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the management of testing for major framework projects, as well as other major or complex projects as required.
  • Lead and co-ordinate the activities carried out by Testers in Charge on these and other projects.
  • Take overall responsibility for the testing and commissioning of new and altered signalling systems.
  • Represent AtkinsRéalis at Client meetings.
  • Undertake Work Package Management responsibilities on Projects.
  • Identify resource requirements for your projects and competent staff are utilised, ensuring they are briefed regarding their work and responsibilities and that any necessary documentation is completed.
  • Encourage and promote the advancement of staff as a route to self-development.
  • Cascade management briefings as required.
  • Upward briefing of project testing status to Practice Director and Project team as required.
  • Ensure Audits and surveillances are undertaken in accordance with the Project Quality or Engineering plan.
  • Ensure adherence to the AtkinsRéalis standards, procedures, processes covering all engineering, safety, administrative and project requirements.
  • Co-operate with quality, safety, and environmental objectives and contribute where appropriate to AtkinsRéalis commitment for continual improvement.
  • Manage testing and commissioning of signalling equipment to meet contract specifications, performance, and safety parameters.
  • Manage effective utilisation and allocation of project-based testing resources both internal and subcontracted.
  • Prepare and check bids for accuracy and price for the testing portion of signalling projects.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes and procedures, and innovations and initiatives.
  • Deputise for the Practice Director as required.
  • Ensure rostering and budgets are optimised and delivered as set by the Practice Director.
